I dont work for EPC, and I work for a competitor of CI....so keep both of those things in mind....

I love EPC cigars! Thats common knowledge. I like the short runs, the limited releases, and a number of store exclusives (including those fantastic federal smokes).

Yes, EPC made a short run for CI, different size, different smoke. No one to my knowledge at either company posted that it was the exact same smoke as the toro that was the original short run. Same thing going on here. This is a CI store exclusive by EPC. Smoke it if you like it, don't smoke it if you don't like it. Last I checked there was no LE band on these smokes, they don't say 2011. Anyone who is a cigar geek (like most of us) knows the difference. For the rest of the 90% of cigar smokers that don't, they will buy it because it says EPC and its cheaper than anything else EPC makes. Let them smoke it if they want. I wont smoke it because I work for a competitor of CI :)

Thanks for the info, Derek!

Jim, I see what you're saying and I agree to an extent but I don't like deceptive marketing like that. Would it be okay for some one to put a pappy label in well whiskey so long as they sold it to people who don't know any better?

And the 11 wasn't ct...
I don't think it was ever confirmed (at least not publicly) what the wrapper leaf was.
I am sorry I don't understand the question
i mean i never seen any description for the wrapper was besides 'oscuro' or 'maduro', no geographic orgin/strain.

So some of you know I am a rep for EPC, this information comes from the company, not a rumor, and I expect that some are not going to like what the answer to the questions are.

The cigar is NOT a remake of the original Dark Ritual. There are two things that are the same between this cigar and the original. Those are the wrapper which is Conn Broadleaf Maduro, and the names are similar. This project was started a few years back and is a cigar that EPC makes for CI. I wish it was a different name, however this is not a customer of mine and I have no control over that. The original Dark Ritual is not something that will be made again, there are cigars that we make that are similar, however we as a company do not recycle blends under different names. Each cigar is unique. There may be filler changes, binder changes, or even tweaks to each new blend. There are going to be consumers that purchase this based on the name, and it will not be the same and that will be frustrating to them, I will tell you that it would frustrate me. I hope this provides some insight to the questions that were brought up, if anyone has anymore, please feel free to post here or send me a PM.
thanks for this, you rock! so the 2011 was ct then??

slightly off topic, but I've never smoked the EPC 2011 LE Dark Rituals. However, a B&M near me still has a few left last time I was in there. Is this regarded as one of the best EPC LE's? Should I stockpile the remaining at the B&M?

one of favorites EPCs, I haven't had one recently so I do not know how they are smoking today, but I recommend picking one up if you have the chance

No, they don't but they both say epc and, if you don't know any better, and you want to try a dark ritual, you'll buy it thinking it's the same thing when it's not. It's deceptive no matter how you look at it. Anyway, it happens a lot more than this and in a lot more buxom eases than this, just disappointing to see it with epc.

I think you guys are making a way bigger deal about this than should be made. But that's just a humble opinion from a guy thats just tired of all the drama.

In the larger sense of things it doesn't matter. But on a cigar board for cigar geeks, it does matter. And it's never okay to deceive your customers.

Pointing it out on a cigar forum is great...education is important.

I think whether or not this is a deceptive practice is evidently a matter of opinion. DE changed the wrapper in the FFP, left the band the same, and never told anyone. Sold it as the exact same stick. This is a different band, different size, and is a store exclusive. I'm not sure it's the same thing.

There are way worse things done by other companies for store exclusives that are actually very deceptive and no one seems to care about those things.

Like I said...I don't shop at CI, so I don't have to worry about being confused.
