I had a bowl of Nat Sherman blend 536 today and a bowl of Dunhill nightcap. I'm still a complete newb (and have the spent matches to prove it!), but I'm really starting to like this whole pipe thing. Won't move me away from cigars, but it's definitely nice to mix it up.

This am. I am smoking some Hudson's Bay in the Savinelli 622KS. I think I have found a tobacco that just won't smoke good in the 622 out of the TIN...... So I open this TIN of tobacco and my first thought when I see the little paper insert was that WOW this is going to be wet Tobacco. I kid you not whe I say that I had to peel it off the tobacco. On most cases you take the card out and wipe off the tobacco back into the Tin. This tobacco had a thin paper and the tobacco didn't want to peel off it at all. Sitting it aside I think to my self I can smoke this for sure in the 622.... Take a nice pinch of tobacco and twist it between my fingers so I can get it just under the width of the bowl. Slide it into the bowl and lightly push it into the bowl. Take a pre draw and it draws very well. Push a little more and it is down under the rim of the bowl about 1/8 " Another pre draw, Still very nice. I take my Zippo. After a few puffs and some exhale of nice smooth smoke I close the lighter with the thought it was lit. I try and take another puff and no smoke. Then I am thinking it needs little more fire then the Zippo will offer. Grab a match and This time I think I have it and this time I get just a couple of draws with good smoke. Not even wasting time I take a draw and out again...... This time I again grab the Zippo and after a few puffs moving the lighter over the bowl to make sure it was evenly lit. I am off. Smoking this bowl now rather well.... I don't know what it is but this smell reminds me of a tobacco that one of my friends used to smoke. The taste is something rather nice Even though this tin says it is Va all the way for some odd reason I get flavors of Burley but maybe that is just the Black Va. What I am about to say won't make much sense But this tobacco is mild in flavor but not smooth as some other tobaccos I have smoked. I am going to try and dry this next time and smoke it in this pipe again. This is very interesting smoke. I will for sure try another TIN when this one is gone..

A bowl of HH Latakia flake with thanks to Zack in my black rock cob
What are your initial thoughts on the Lat Flake?
First smoke I couldn't stop myself from comparing it to ODF, which I really like a lot. It was good. I'm going to need another bowl to really get into it, and hopefully I'll be able to drop the urge to compare it to ODF. Thanks again!

A bowl of Squadron Leader in my Ural meerschaum. Thanks to Zack for the smoke. I'm really digging this. Medium English with some very nice and pronounced flavors. No bite. This will be one I stock up on when my TAD kicks back in... Ha ha.

Time for some Dunhill Flake in a Dr. Grabow zulu.

So this pipe only holds about 2/3rds of this size flake. Fold & stuff didn't work, had to rub the flake out.
This tobacco was good, but was missing strength and spice? Are there any English or VaPer flakes? If not, which full strength Virginia flakes would you recommend?
Macbaren latakia flake
Sg St. James flake
I love ph dark strong
Dunhill navy rolls(technically not a flake but uber satisfying)
Have u tried ps luxury navy flake
Awesome. Thanks for the recommendations. I've had PH Dark Strong on backorder for ever. That MacB Latakia Flake sounds interesting.

Cleaned the garage today so it wouldn't be useless once the snow falls and then enjoyed a bowl of some Nightcap in my Non Canta La Raganella Prima.
