Hey gents

Have a question for you guys.

I would love to be able to store my stogies in airtight containers in my house and in my closet but the average temp is between 68-73 here inside my house in SoCal and almost always closer to the latter here especially in the summers.

If I freeze all of my stogies (my CCs) for beetle prevention do I not need to worry about temps getting above 70F as long as the correct humidity is maintained??

Will that be a problem or "undesirable" in terms of aging and storage of my cigars??

Thank you!!

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Hey Ethan,

At 73* I wouldn't be too worried, but regardless you never can be too safe right? If you want to freeze your cigars upon arrival this is certainly okay and will kill off any eggs that may be there preventing them from hatching in the future. Here's the process

1. Double bag your cigars in high quality freezer bags
2. Put the cigars in the refrigerator for one day
3. Put the cigars in the freezer for 2 days
4. Put the cigars back in the refrigerator for one day
5. Allow the cigars, still in bags, to reach room temperature for 12 hours
6. Remove from bags and place in humidor

The reason for the double bagging is to prevent the cigars from drying out - use a high quality bag!!! All the moving back and forth is so that the cigars adjust properly. Too much and too quick of temperature changes can 'shock' the cigars or so it's told.

Hope that helps!

Exactly this. I live in Southern California as well, it's the best bet if you're concerned about beetles and are using tupperware.
