Ok, I have heard you guys talk about leather, chocolate, wood, cedar, floral notes, coffee, fruit, and many other subtle flavors in cigars (and I know what you mean, I've been doing that with pipe tobacco for years and am learning to do it with cigars as well).

But going through past posts, you all seem to have much trouble describing the twang. Would you care to try anyway? Just do your best?

Me, I have no idea, because I haven't smoked one yet. But I am curious about these things, and I want to have a better idea what to look for so I won't get ripped off when the day comes.

When wetting the end before and during smoking, my lips get a tingle (or twang) to them. Hard to describe to me as a flavor, more of a reaction to the cigar in a very pleasant way. The smoke also causes a tingle on the tongue as well many times too, usually upon lighting and fades shortly after. I do not recall this phenomenon happening to non-Cuban cigars.

Honestly, I'm sure no one really knows what the "twang" is.
I think it's different for different people. Like the previous posters
said...citrus, tingle, and the list could go on. I don't know if I have tasted the twang. I know CC taste much different than NC. My favorite flavor with the CC is the allspice (pumpkin pie ish) type flavor. To me that's the most common theme with CC. If you are new to this work your way from 06 to vintage. You will see a huge difference and develop your palate along the way. I'm now hooked on vintage cigars which is a problem. One, because they are harder to obtain and two they cost you an arm and a leg. I smoked a gifted (IndyRob) pre 1985 EdM last night and I couldn't get over how smooth it was.

Pretty difficult to describe....I guess it has a very distinct flavor and I just can't put it into words

So, what you are all telling me is that Habanos are magical cigars whose twang changes depending on the smoker? Sounds like voodoo to me! :squinteye

I can definitely smell a difference. In a little while, I'll torch it up and see what the twang is for me.

To me it come across as a citrus-ish flavor.
Would completely agree with this statement.

Though, when first getting into CCs I misinterprutted it as a nutty flavor.

See the Bolivar line or RyJ for a monumental example of what the "twangy" flavor is to me.

For the record, many others refer to this "twang" as the buzz one gets from the youth of the normal fresh Cuban.

I'm with Craig. Boli and RyJ, ESPECIALLY AGED tend to really be twangy. First time I ever really understood the "twang" was a 98 RyJ Ex4 from a cab. Absolutely wonderful cigar. A close second was a 98 Boli Tubos No. 2. Both great examples of twang. I can't describe it, sorry, wish I could.

Smoking a Boli corona. I would say citrus is a pretty good description. I also see what HB means by the tingle. Interesting.

I am thoroughly enjoying it.

I'm not sure how aged this one is. It doesn't taste green to me.

I do know that despite having smoked an average of two packs of cigs a day for over 30 years, and despite having smoked 8-12 bowls of pipe tobacco a day (sometimes super strong pipe tobacco like SG #4 twist) for the last few years, with never a problem, empty stomach or not, a cigar can still sometimes get to me nicotine-wise.

I call that tangy and not twang.
I agree with Headbanger. Not to step on any toes, but I believe
"twang" is a word that is used by people new to cuban cigars.

I never hear this word from the long time smokers. Now the word
tang or tangy I do see as related. I see it as somewhat near citrus.
To me it can be noticed most in Montecristo either ahead or behind
notes of cocoa.

Bruce-
COmpletely agree and I don't take offense to it at all. We all were answering the question at hand, not necessarally saying we feel that's an adequate way to describe their flavor. I don't think anyone here would disagree since you're not saying ONLY newbies feel this way. It's just an opinion & last time I checked we're still able to share those.
