smokingpipes.com in november (starting today), 20% off MacB HH series tins, with purchase of five or more. same premise as their dunhill tin promo last month. but, unlike last month, this month features ODF and Lat flake. mmmmmm...

I read it as 20% off five or more of the *same* tin, not mix and match like the Dunhill one. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Whtwtrman- Dave saw that smokingpipes now has the 1 lb boxes of Mac Baren Latakia Flake. Now that is exciting!
THAT IS HOT. i wonder if they'd honor the 20% off five on those pound boxes?

EDIT: i had a problem finding them at first, they are in the TINNED section, not bulk.
That would be a sweet deal if so

Aged tins can get ridiculous on the fleabay
NOt that I have any tins older than about 3 months, but what does constitute an "aged" tin? 5 years? 10? I assume it is like red wine where some do better for longer while some age nicely up until a point...
Most are around that 5/10 year. Go to gl pease website and give it a read including his blog entries at pipes magazine. He's a wealth of information on aging and how it affects deferent blends. He even has on his site how he thinks each of his own blends will peak at and deteriorate etc

I need to read that. I have a tin of GLP Odyssey from 2003.

Spring strong sweet tall green grass grow...
Anyone got a link to that?
This is the link for aging in vacuum-sealed bags (vs. tins): http://www.glpease.com/Articles/vacuum.html

And here's one on aging: http://www.glpease.com/FAQ.html#AGE
Thanks for that, Rob. I've been doing method 2 with the vac bags, double sealing with air left inside. I'll have to keep an eye out for dry baccy around the edges. I don't foresee a problem, though, as I've been keeping the stash in a utility room that stays around 65°/65% year-round. Might have to eventually make some mass jar purchases though!

So… you need jars?

I think I'll buy four ounces of bulk and split it into two. One I'll seal in a vacuum bag (without removing the air but sealed) and the other I'll seal in a mason jar. Lord knows I have enough tobacco that I can wait a year or two before opening them and seeing if there's much of a difference. I may even write on them both "Open on Jan 1, 2018".

Oh, not just yet.
But when I do decide to buy more, there are some decent deals to be had online. There's usually a recurring 30% off coupon w/ free shipping for cooking.com that yielded the best prices on the wide-mouth jars I've been buying. Always check retailmenot.com before any online purchase, as well as ebates, fatwallet, and the like!
