Newbie Trade can be a trade or a purchase from a brother. The idea is for you to complete a transaction and get some creds. Do a small trade. Talk to your sponsor. You may have something he has not tried. Never know.

To the new guys: welcome! You've found what I consider one of the best places on the internet for cigar conversation and camaraderie. The name of the site is "Brothers of the Leaf" for a reason: this place really is a brotherhood.

It takes a bit of time to acclimate to a new family, and for most of you it will be the same. We welcome you with open arms, but I would like to make a few small suggestions:

1. Read the BOTL Pre-study Package. Lots of great information there about navigating this place, and about how it operates.

2. Read the post by Craig Mac entitled Fitting In. It's linked at the end of the Pre-Study Package, but is worth being pointed to again.

3. Leave other forums out of the discussion here. What happens at other forums shouldn't be brought here or discussed here. Issues, problems, drama, etc with other forums should be discussed elsewhere. BotL is remarkably drama free, and we'd all love to keep it that way.

4. Remember to be respectful. Like any other relationship, being part of a brotherhood takes a lot of respect. Don't assume that just because you signed up, you deserve something. Take the time to establish relationships before you PM a guy about his Cuban sources. (In fact, don't ever PM someone asking for their Cuban sources. If you take the time to develop relationships, you'll find everything you're looking for.) Don't ask for bombs, or hint around hoping someone will bomb you. Be respectful in your responses, even if you think someone else was rude in their comment. That kind of thing.

I'm posting this because I too was once new here, and made a number of mistakes. Now, the brotherhood here is very forgiving (heck, they still let me stick around!) but the points above will help you avoid the same missteps I made as you become part of the community here.

Hopefully this helps, and welcome again to all of you new guys!

Thanks for the tips StogieNinja....new here and really looking forward to some discussion and tips as well as giving my own......I am uk based and a big habanos man.....really want to get in to some new world cigars and particularly the smokes in the US we cant get here....eg. casa blanca......

any advice on how to get people engaged on chatting about this topic as I am not getting much response?

Hi Ben, this place is an absolute treasure trove of info, whether it be NCs or CCs.

As Matt said post up an intro and let people know what you like to smoke now and if you are looking to sample a variety of US smokes look no further than the Newbie trade.

I'm in the UK too and thanks to this place I've managed to try some things I never thought I'd get chance to, as well as get chatting to some knowledgeable and friendly folk too.

Cheers mate.....only joined today so only a handful of posts....however good responses with good advice.....really looking forward to learning about new stogies......as i mentioned i am a uk based habanos smoker so also looking forward to helping some of the US guys out by swapping cubans for some of those new world smokes we cant get in the uk

Two tips:
1. Noobie Sampler Trade - this will get you at least started on trader feedback. You'll want to do at least a few purchases here to build some feedback, as well as establishing yourself on the board and letting is get to know you before you starting advertising for trades, as international trading is not without inherent risk.

2. Which brings me to point two: contribute as you can to the discussions available to you, and let us all get to know you on a more personal level. The fellas here are very generous an very happy to help anyone out, but they are especially willing to help a guy who is an active, contributing member.

After a certain amount of activity (don't remember specifically), both the Habanos section and the marketplace will open up to you and you'll be able to participate both in habanos discussions as well as purchase those cigars you're interested in.

As a note to all reading: a listing offering to sell or trade cuban cigars is against BOTL rules. Nothing in the rules forbids private transactions of any kind, but you can't advertise that you want to buy, sell, or trade CCs.

As another note to all reading: make sure anyone you are trading with, especially internationally, is an established member with solid trade history before entering into a trade!

Hey Ninja, is the Noobie Sampler Trade active? I couldn't get the linked thread to work? I've been around a few months, but haven't been active lately. I would like to get into trading with all the brothers around here, but I haven't seen very many trade opportunities for guys without trader feedback.

Another noob here, just joined today. Glad I found this thread early on, as it really reinforces the positive vibe I'm seeing here and tells me that I'm in good company. Thank you, for all that you guys do to make it and keep it that way!
