Hello, newbie question for the brotherhood. I received an order today and the cigars arrived in great shape, except for the fact that they were a bit over-humidified. A couple of the sticks were even soft to the touch. After reading through the related posts, I've seen that kitty litter, putting the cigars in the refrigerator and rice are options that others have used. I only have Boveda packs at my disposal for now, so the beads that I've read about are not around to save the day.

Do Boveda packs really do 2-way humidity control well, as advertised?
Which of the methods is the hardest to screw up?
Any other suggestions?

I appreciate the help

Yes, bovedas packs do 2-way humidity extremely well. Kitty litter does the same but it takes a little tinkering. Go check out the storage threads. A lot places ship sticks a little wet, always good to let them sit at 65 for a few weeks at least, a few months would be even better.

Thanks guys. I will let them rest in the humidor for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I'm just terrified of ruining my (modest) collection and humidor with mold. Hopefully the Bovedas take care of the excess moisture.

This is by far your best course of action. I have done this as a matter of habit for a couple of years now and it works quite well. You should not have to worry about mold developing.

I usually let mine sit about a month before I fire them up just to be safe.

I'll probably take this course of action with anything that I have shipped to my door from now on. On another note, I see you are in Winona, MN. I've been there twice! Worked for a big industrial supplier that is HQ'd in Winona for a few years. The last time I was there, a coworker took me to an overlook/park that has a view over the city and I regretted not having a cigar with me to help me better enjoy the scenery.

Sounds like we worked for the same place Uncle Philly!

I had 22 years with the "Big F" before I moved along. After I left in 2010 I worked for Jonnesway for about 3 years and have been with Alpha Fittings now since April of 2013.

Hey, small world! I enjoyed my time there, it's a good company. I just didn't have the ability to relocate around the country in order to make a long-term career of it. Made the big change to the commercial insurance industry in January, but I made sure to get my book signed by "BK" when I went to Wino, before I left.
