Ha. Russ brought some Semois in to give Walt this weekend. I couldn't bring myself to smoke any. I can't explain it, but after smelling it and watching other guys gagging I decided not to ghost a pipe with it... Lol.

What do you think?
I love it. Its a straight burley. It wont ghost.

Ha. Russ was saying it would. I didn't have a pipe to sacrifice... Ha ha ha
I don't understand. Some people say straight Burleys don't ghost some say they do. I don't see how it will. I was told that Strang will ghost but them Simmo said no it doesn't cuz it's pretty much a straight burley. Carter Hall is straight burley and it doesn't ghost.

I break in with it cuz I love it. And it's a burley. But I don't smoke it out of anything but it's dedicated pipe because of ghosting from other baccys.

C&D Night Train. This is my first bowl in this cleaned up estate marked Five-Nine-Teen Seattle. No amount of scrubbing or soaking (tried lemon juice then peroxide) was able to remove all of the tar stains from the clear acrylic stem. Oh well, now I know what to expect from clear acrylic. At least I have this fine bowl of NT to sooth me and so far the pipe is a nice smoker.

Is there anyway to get a closeup of the stem? I've seen clear stem that the hole has been painted so as not to show the tar. Usually cheaper basket pipes. I'm just curious what that one looks like.

Just had this discussion on a FB group I belong to. A pipe retort will clean the stem if it is just tar and not painted. But care must be given. I use isopropyl alcohol and it boils at app. 180°. Heat will soften acrylic.

This is what it looks like now. Mind you, I'm smoking this pipe now so there is some moisture in the stem.

I'm pretty sure there is no coloring added and the stem is just clear and stained. In my research trying to find out how to remove them I did find that alcohol can be detrimental to acrilic in that it will make the plastic spiderweb and cloud. This stem I cleaned with alcohol as with any other stem I have cleaned. I then did the oxyclean treatment. To try an better get rid of the staining I tried leaving lemon juice soaked pipe cleaners in the stem. I refreshed the pipe cleaner everyday and did this for several days. It literally did nothing. I tried the same thing again with Hydrogen Peroxide with the same results.

Thanx. It's not painted. I would try shank brushes. They will work but will take alot of elbow grease. Regular or bristles pipe cleaners wont. Or u can use pipe retort and shank brushes. The stem and hot alcohol will loosen it and the shank brushes will scrub it out.

I have a picture of one I did somewhere but can't find it. If u would like, send it to me and I will take a whack at it.

That is an extremely generous offer and I thank you for it. If I had a Dunhill in my hand I would take you up on it but since this is nothing special I think I will get my hands on some shank brushes and keep at her as you suggested. If I screw it up I won't feel so bad this being a pretty much no name pipe.

The generosity of this group really is something else. More people should smoke fine tobacco and maybe learn a little something.

Straight burley doesn't ghost. It will even remove a ghost. If it's a topped burley then yes it will ghost. A lot of B&M will top the burley and make it like a sweet or vanilla. I break my pipes in with CH. CH has a little topping in my opinion but it builds great cake and will not ghost. Just my experience. But I'm also a burley nut.
