Hi brothers. I recently made the move to a wineador for storage of my collection. My main reason was temp. control as this past summer my coolidor routinely made it into the middle 70s, and I just wasn't comfortable with that. I received this wineador for Christmas: http://www.amazon.com/Whynter-CHC-251S-Stainless-Cooler-Humidor/dp/B00KO90H6Y . Picked it up for $265 shipped from Best Buy. The reason for starting this thread is I'm having trouble getting to the rh that I prefer. Here's the process I followed:
-pulled all the shelves and drawers out and gave the inside a good wipe down.
-installed a ETC through a 1/4" hole I drilled in the back of the unit.
-plugged the ETC wire hole and drain hole with odorless silicone.
-I set the ETC for 69* with a dif of 1*
-Filled 3 Tupperware containers about halfway with distilled water and placed them in my wineador (top, middle, bottom) along with my 2 Caliber IV hygrometers.
-After about 2 days both hygros were reading around 78rh. At this point I pulled out the containers of distilled water and replace them with Mimi Litter. One 6" squared tupperware on the top shelf, one 3" x 2" plastic container that came with the unit on the middle shelf, and a Pudgy Monsters box on the very bottom.
-Around a day later(this past Thursday) the rh was reading 65% on top and 66% on bottom. At this point I moved my sticks into the wineador placing a 69 Boveda on each shelf and in each drawer and 3 humidity gel tubes top, middle, bottom. This was at lunchtime, and by that night hygros were reading 60% top and 62% bottom.
-Same reading Friday morning, so I took each KL container out and gave them 2 sprays of DW.
-No improvement in the readings Sat morning, so I repeated the process. By Saturday night it was at 61% top and 63% bottom, so I sprayed the containers again. Woke up this morning to no change.

I'm starting to get a little frustrated that I can't seem to bring the humidity up to where I want it (65%-67%). I've also noticed that each time the unit kicks on, the rh seems to drop on the hygros around 2% I just wanted to run it by y'all and see if there's something I'm missing, or if I'm just being impatient. I spent a lot of time reading different threads and I didn't get the impression that it should be taking this long to settle in to a good rh if the proper preparations were followed. TIA.

Couple things.
I would have seasoned the drawers for more than 2 days and rh almost always goes down when you add sticks. If they were real dry than it could be dramatic.

If it makes u feel better, im having trouble getting over 62 right now. Winter sucks.

Some sites reccomend 2 weeks. I usually leave a sponge in there for about 4 days. Then i do just beads or boveda packs for a few days until it stabilizes. But like i said, mine is reading 62 right now with 69 bovedas in there.

Wow, two weeks seems like overkill. I don't believe it's the weather in my case. 66* right now and been that way since I started this process. Heater hasn't even been running. Inside the house has been getting up to 72* during the day. However, we do have some cold weather coming this week and I was hoping to have my rh stabalized by then.
At this point, would you recommend moving my sticks back to the coolidor and giving the drawers/shelves some more seasoning time?

Cant hurt. But i usually dont worry bout it too much as long as i am in the 60s. It will raise over time as long as you have enough beads or whatever you are using in there.
if you do want to re-season, try doing just the drawers in a plastic garbage bag so there is less air volume to contend with. That should speed up the process.

Go back to just water and drawers and give it about a week. When I did mine I let it get up to 80rh and then added sticks. That first day it dropped but the next day it came back up.
I also think you may be trying too many different humidification devices. Stick to you KL and get that dialed in.

FWIW... I use a large plastic dish at the bottom of my wineador and it does just fine. It's big enough to take up almost the entire bottom (my wineador is an 18btl).

Ok, got all my sticks moved back to the coolidor and got the wineador seasoning some more. Gonna let it ride for several days and try again. Thanks for your input fellas.

This, except add a couple days between removing DW and adding sticks where you add your KL and let it all settle. Monitor at that point for a couple days. That's your true test point. If the drawers and KL stabilize to the RH where your sticks are in the cooler, that's your goal and you shouldn't see a shift when you add the sticks to the mix.

Drawers + DW (via air, not wiped) to 75-80 RH

Remove DW, add KL, RH will drop to 65-70, wait for it to stabilize.

Adjust accordingly, spritz w/ DW to add RH, add dry SC or crack door for a bit to remove RH

Add sticks once RH holds at desired level for days without fluctuation.

So my rh is reading 84% as I type, but it's only been a little over 48hrs since I began the second seasoning session. Is it time to pull the water and add KL even though it's only been roughly 2 days? Also, we have a nasty cold front coming through starting tomorrow and lasting a few days. Should this be taken into consideration?

I have the exact same unit and I too was a bit impatient but it worked out in the end. I used a spray bottle with DW and lightly misted the bottom of the drawers once a day while having my beads in the top and bottom. It took a few days but has now been at 69% for three weeks solid. On a side note, I re-arranged my drawers so that one is directly in front of the fan at the back of the unit. This makes the air move around the drawer and move to the top and bottom of the unit to better circulate. Before I did this, I had larger humidity fluctuations between the top and bottom of the unit. Now it's much better. Hope this helps.

Pulled the DW and added a tray of KL before I left the house for work this morning. I noticed there was a little pool of water resting on the inset shelf just below the fan that houses the drain plug(which is plugged). I'm wondering if if I should unplug the drain, or if the condensation was just a result of the very high humidity reached during seasoning?
