So I got some good news on the job front today and decided to celebrate with my first ever bowl of stonehaven in one of my favorite pipes (pipe courtesy of @Psiman ) ... what a mistake! I absolutely love this baccy. Smokes and tastes like the tin note (which is awesome!). Great, of course I love one of the really hard to find ones lol. What a nice celebration!

Congrats on the job front news and enjoying a great bowl of baccy. I have yet to try any of the Esoterica blends but have also yet to hear anyone badmouth them (especially Stonehaven). Great looking pipe too.

Rushing a little to get out the door this morning I mistakenly packed a bowl of Dunhill MM 965 instead of the Dunhill EMP that I had planned to try on the way to work this morning. Oh well, it was still good, just probably not the best choice for a morning smoke.
Nothing wrong with MM 965 in the morning. I laughed a bit reading your post because I'm here posting I smoked it this morning by choice in a Pura-Smoke.

That didn't go so well. Must have screwed the bowl packing up.
It happens. A lot. <grin>

Having to relight a pipe is part of the experience (Google the Frank method of packing) but there is a learning curve. I think the most important thing is to not see an improperly-packed bowl as "failure" and is just one of those things. Hell, even the expert cigar rollers screw up a stick from time to time.

One of the reasons I enjoy the pipe is that there is a certain level of ritual in the packing and lighting process. So, if you (mentally) incorporate the packing of the bowl into the whole experience of smoking the pipe, you'll likely come to enjoy it even more.

Welcome to the slope!

Thanks for your insight. I definitely didn't let it discourage me. Matter of fact, I made certain to be more studious this morning with my pack, and it paid off. Minimal relights on the way in to work. I know that I have a LOT of learning to do, but I'm really diggin' the pipe experience so far.

Looks like the same iridescent green mini-church I've got. I like it!
I really wish they had a store front. I'm less than an hour from Ann Arbor...I google street viewed the address. It's just a house, and I don't think they would appreciate me pounding on their door.

Had the Dunhill EMP on the way in this morning. Very nice. I'm really enjoying these first few bowls. I think I may be a piper yet.

A question for the brothers. Through my research I've come across that one should "rest their pipes" after smoking them. Only having the one corn cob as of now, am I ok smoking one or two bowls a day out of the same pipe?

Had a bowl of Larry's Blend in a Hilson Bolero on the way to work.

Resting pipes is more applicable to briars and allows the pipe to dry. Cobs are a bit more resilient. If you are only smoking two bowls a day you are fine.
