Had a big retainer come in last week and as is my habit the first thing I think about after worrying whether the check will clear is what should I do to add to my collection. I must preface in saying that before I had the benefit of the discussion and advice on this board I would have driven to the nearest retailer and wasted 20-30 dollars a stick on an opus etc... (not a bad cigar - but, well after a few cc purchases at about $10 bucks a stick --I'm, well, toast)
Sooo my question is if you were going to buy a box of churchills which would you recomend and more importantly why so I can match the "whys" to my particular tastes.....I am considering Hoyos/ R&J or punch?

Any help you offer will be much appreciated bros!!!

Even though it's not called a Churchill, I'd go for the Bolivar Corona Gigantes! I love these things. So smooth - you can't go wrong!

You absolutely can not go wrong with Upmann Sir Winstons, they are a fabulous cigar. If you are looking for a more affordable alternative Upmann, the Monarch is very similar. Not as complex, but very good in it's own right. If you get the RyJ Churchill, go for the tubo, it's worth it. The RyJ churchill is fantastic as well, probably my second favorite cigar behind the Sir Winnie.

FWIW, I'd go with the RyJ --- one of my all-time favorites. Of course, the other sticks mentioned in this thread ain't too shabby, and you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with any of 'em. :awholelot

I'm not a huge fan of the RyJ line in general. It just doesn't hit my taste buds right. I have a box of 2001 St. Luis Rey Churchill which are smoking terrific. The taste profile is very cubanesque and similar to the series A. I like the toasty nutmeg/cinnamon theme that runs in this line. I will say they all have smoked good but one of them I put in my top 2 smokes. It's a very underrated smoke that you can get very reasonably.
