Cigar etiquette question

Hey everyone, quick question here from a noob!
I have a B&M a few doors down from my apartment, and I usually head in there Wednesday night and Saturday morning/afternoon. Usually I buy a cigar and smoke it there.
The other day I did something different though. I went in and bought a couple of their house cigars (quite good actually, better than Holt's for sure), but had to go and couldn't hang and puff one. The cigars went in my tupperdor until I had time last night.
I clipped it at home, walked down 3 doors and lit it up. Shortly after lighting it, I realized that I had no clue if that was in bad taste. The cigar was finished while there, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but I wanted to ask all of you.
Is it in bad taste to bring a cigar from your home to the shop and smoke it, if said cigar was previously purchased in the shop?

Not at all haha, I bring cigars I purchased at other places a good amout into my b&m and smoke them. Your fine man. As long as you do buy from the shop occasionally, your in the clear.

If you're a regular and they know you, they probably know you bought it there, and they probably could care less what you smoke in there. You're giving them business, they know it, and you're gonna keep coming back. I frequently bring my herf-a-dor to the lounge with me and smoke whatever stick strikes my mood. I also usually buy 2 of something new while I'm in there. But if i'm smoking what I bought, or what I brought ,nobody cares.

Your mileage may vary, but that's what I've experienced, and how I roll. Others may differ in opinion, and thats ok too.

Every shop is different, we would have to know the shop to really answer it. My lounge is totally fine with outside cigars coming in, they don't even have to be bought there, just as long as we are buying food/drinks. It's a very nice lounge, but it's upstairs in a casino so their money is coming from that and they are just happy having people come to the cigar lounge.

Most B&M's rely on selling cigars so yes it's usually bad form if someone brings their own cigars and doesn't buy anything. But I would think your case is different because you are a regular and always buy cigars from them. If it makes you feel better, make a comment with the workers when you get there saying "hey I bought this last time and I'm just now getting a chance to fire it up." That way they know you are smoking their cigars and you don't have to feel guilty. Maybe still buy a cigar while there? Just depends on the B&M.

Sounds pretty harmless. I know proper etiquette is to normally at least purchase a cigar even if you have brought one of your own to smoke. In this case you technically did buy from them, you just came back to burn it later. I'm sure that if they asked and you explained they would be fine with it. I would think they would be happy that you returned to smoke it there instead of at home or elsewhere. Sounds like your either going to be or already are a regular there so I would just ask them next time.

I agree with everyone else, it's fine if you are a regular there. Many people won't smoke a cigar without some rest in their humi.

It really is going to depend on the individual B&M. Next time, I would go ahead and ask. Tell them the scenario that you bought these at the store the other day, didn't have time to smoke them, and would like to know. As a good faith gesture, offer to show the receipt. A good B&M, IMHO, will say that it's not a problem and the fact that you asked should go a long way in letting them know that you care about their business.

If they say no, then I would find a new B&M.

Personally, I always bring my travel humi and smoke stuff that I've had sitting in my humidor at home because I am confident about the Rh level they've been stored at (my closest B&M, due to the way the store is constructed, over humidifies their sticks and I think they need to rest at least a few days). But, I always buy one stick for every cigar that I plan on smoking there.

I think Josh is right, if they know you as a regular, they'd be stupid to make an issue out of it.

This is some good feedback from all of you, and definitely alleviates my concerns.
The guys there definitely know me, and have really welcomed me as a new member of the group that hang there. It's in South Philly, so the majority of the guys are Italian guys from the hood and I see them on a daily basis, in and out of the shop. Being that they are so nice, that was my main motivation for asking advice. Never want to offend those that are very kind, you know?
My birthday is next week, so I plan on stopping in this weekend to grab some cigars for the week. I'll be back in there on my actual birthday, hopefully with some gift money, and hope to grab a celebratory Leaf by Oscar.
Keep the advice coming guys, it's good to hear different perspectives from the BOTL!

If the bar didn't always stock what I like AND they allowed me to as long as I bought the equivalent $$$ amount in food/snacks, I absolutely would.

Its the same type of retail outlet, only difference being one is selling beer, the other is selling cigars.

There are places you can go and bring your own beer, same as there are places where you can go and bring your own cigars. There are also places that will charge you a 5$ cutting fee for lighting an outside cigar, and place that will prevent you from entering their establishments if you bring your own... or even blacklist you. Its their bread and butter, think about it.

You lucky guys with your etiquette dilemmas! Darn state laws here prevent any outside tobacco to be consumed on premises. And that's the rare times I travel to a decent B&M where I actually want to spend time there!

Really? Wow. Illinois is usually the over-regulated state. I would have thought South Dakota would have laws that were more lax. Especially considering that, during the week of Sturgis, the population of the state almost doubles.

Or, maybe that's why. That's a huge revenue stream then, if tourists are your main customer...

My apologies for misunderstanding your earlier statement, but it was a bit sarcastic when all I wanted was some advice for a noob, hence my reply.
The other regulars bring them in all the time, so that is where I figured it was ok to bring one of theirs back in to smoke.
In addition, I always offer to toss them a few bucks whether or not I drink any of their water/soda/coffee, and ask if there is anything that I can bring to chip in on supplies.

I am more concerned about all the slobery salivated cigars it may have cut than the fact it might be less-than-optimal in its cutting capabilities... some people are plain gross with other's property.
