We was excited to get off work today. Had a sitter so I get to herf at home. Got home and decided to try another helix. I havent had one in about three years and as soon as I lit it up I remebered why. It was freking terrible! I smoked it all the way down to see if id like the different profiles last third was mediocre at best. Had to make a gas station run and hit up the liquor store and got a 6er of odouls and a RP Connecticut. I used to love rp then had a run of bad luck with them. I haven't had one in a year or so but it was staring me down from the humidor. I got home used the lighter method where your light before you cut it. Then I had to do some painting in the nursery so I took my time smoking it. I was able to do my masking tape, paint around the edges, and get in a quick shower. Now, I'm kicking back in my recliner burning my fingers on this nub. All I can say is wow what a smoke! Amazing flavor all the way through very light and creamy with a toasty woody flavor. It had a perfect burn. And one lil touch up. I seem to have a thing for loving the last 1/3 of a cigar. This nub was well worth the wait. I'm glad I took the plunge!!

Let me know if you like it after ageing. My first one was right out of the B and M humidor. My second one was bought by a buddy who wouldn't smoke it after they took them home and he got a woft of air from the other one being smoked. He gave it to me I threw it in the tubberdor over night then burned it today

Glad to hear your RP was a pleasure. Seriously!

I haven't had luck with his stuff either and haven't bought one in years. I have a 5 pack that I got as a "thank you for buying with us"... I hope they age well.

Im glad im not the only one. It wasn't really my flavor palate I don't think... They were just burning crappy and plugging and getting tar ed up. It could be that I really really took my time with it. Might be a good stick for golfing this summer. I'll try another one when the cigar budget opens up again. Speaking of cigar budget they had a diesel sampler with 5-6 diesels, a diesel colbri cutter just like I already have, and a diesel torch. It looked sooo nice but the whole being responsible....

Was it a boxed sampler? Man I have a weakness for those!

Yeah it was. I do too. One of my favorite samplers was a punch champion sampler with a bottle opener in some football looking box that I was given around Christmas time 2 years ago. Thoes sticks got me through some tough times and they were amazing! I also got a Romeo Juiletta boxed sampler that had 6 sticks in tubos. They were really good I still have one in my humidor ageing. But that diesel sampler looked amazing! I had a deliurm with some highland single malt scotch in Chicago that was absolutely amazing.

I won't even gift my Helix's. I just need to chuck them.
Don't do it! Bomb the troops with them or something. Those guys will appreciate them or at the very least not know any better. Better than throwing them out. I used to have a buddy who loved smoking the Helix blue labels, and he'd pick them up from gas stations or 7/11s where they just sat there un-humidified for God only knows how long. I tried to tell him they were disgusting for umpteen different reasons to no avail. I had one once, and I thought the gas station Macanudo special was the worst cigar around...right til I lit up that steaming dog turd.

I had some RP maduro's when I first started. TURNED my lips brown from the what I suspect was dark brown dye, used to make them look like a deep dark delicious maduro....which they were not. Never bought one since out of principle!

Smoked a RP Vintage 92 today that had been resting for about 18 months. All I can say is... meh. This stick had an overly easy draw and smoked like a chimney stack. I did pick up some decent flavors in the middle but the first and last third were nothing special. Wouldn't be bad for a $4-$5 smoke, but def not the $8-$9 it retails for.

I love some smooooooth smokey draw on a stick. That's why I really liked the gurka beauty's. But yeah rps seem to have pretty lame profiles most of the time.
