Barbancourt has moved to number one on my rum shortlist. After I get back to the house out of this crazy weather I have a bottle of 8 year waiting. Great stuff.

Bacardi Oakheart is really good. That goes nicely with some coke mixed if you don't like straight up rum. I also have 2 small bottles of the Ron Zacapa as well but have yet to try. I've been told it's delicious. When I go to the cigar lounge next week I think I'm going to open one up and give it a shot. My local shop doesn't carry it, but the one by my girlfriend's house has it. So it'll depend on what store you're going too. Also, another nice dark rum is Brugal Extra Viejo I think it is, a hit and miss also in the local stores.

The history of Rum tells us it's one of the oldest distilled liquors around and made from sugar cane juice, molasses and is called ron anejo= old and aged rum. While it's one of the cheapest to make it has a lot of different flavors it's the aged rums that tend to garner more popularity where it is stored in oak barrels to give it a better taste. It's hard to nail down the best of the best as our tastes tend to differ esp. when it concerns rum...there is the "light" brands that garner a majority of sales while the more expensive dark brands will command a higher price but to me..the better experience when it comes to taste. It's my opinion that the better Rums are made in the Caribbean where the distilling process has almost been perfected over the last 300 years. My advice is to purchase those airline bottles of rum and try them ...half with ice and the other half of the small bottle 'neat' and see what your tastes tell you is better.....not what others say.
