Same here. A guy in high school was rolling a blunt and asked of I wanted some. I said no, but I'll smoke one of those cigars. The thing was nasty.

My brother got me on Black 'n' Milds. I smoked those off and on for years. My first "premium" was an Acid Blondie. I had a boss that thought they were amazing and pretty much hounded us into smoking them with him. After that I swore of cigars for years.

The wife and kid were out of town. I had given up cigarettes for vaping. It was working but I just felt like doing something "manly" while the family was away. So, I went up to JR and kicked around the cigar shop. I ended up coming home with a Nub Cameroon. I hated it. I lit it up just like the online tutorials said. I waited exactly one minute between puffs. I just hated the taste. I liked the rituals of cutting and toasting. I also really liked the feeling in my hand.

At that time I was using naturally extraced tobacco e-liquid. It is made from soaking tobacco in propylene glycol to extract the flavors. Then you filter the liquid and mix it up.
I was going through an obsession with cigar flavored juice. So, I knew good cigar flavor was possible. I tried a La Gloria Cubana(NC) and a couple of others. I didn't like the flavor, but I loved the act of smoking.

The light bulb came on when I was driving back fromNashville. I stopped at Twin Cities in Winston Salem and the sales guy recommended a La Jugada Prieto. I fell in love that day. It was the most amazing thing I had ever smoked. I knew I was past experimenting. It was going to be a regular thing.

Back in college in 1970 I was watching a Clint Eastwood western with some buddies, and after a few too many beers we decided we needed to get some "Clint Eastwood" cigars. After getting thrown out of two smoke shops, the third was the charm. The guy there said he had just what we were looking for and pulled out a box of Parodis. We smoked 'em up and from that day on I was hooked and have been smoking cigars ever since. I still go camping/mountain hiking with some of those same guys each summer, and I provide the cigars. We've moved up to premium cigars, but I always bring a few Parodis for old time's sake, and they guys still love them. And you can always throw a few in the glove compartment and they stay in about the same condition years later.

That is awesome! I started with Philly Blunts and Backwoods and moved up to premiums from there, but still smoke with the same guys I started with 10 years ago. One of the reasons I love cigars. Great story. Thanks for sharing!

I remember those! I used to grab them at the drugstore back in the 80's and they got me through the week, till payday.

Y'all will hate me... mine was a mango-infused monstrosity I hate on a speech & debate trip shortly after my 18th birthday. No parents around and we broke curfew, crossed the tracks to the bad side of the tiny town we stopped in for the night, and found some cheap "cigars" at a gas station with a clear plastic "humidor." Ugh.

Bad though it was, it remains unforgettable, eh?

My first cigar was shared with my father. not entirely too sure what type of cigar it was. The memory I have of that day is more centered on the conversations he and I shared as he cooked me one of his delicious ribeye steaks in the humid south texas afternoon heat. Since that day, He and I have enjoyed a few more together, But none come close to that first one shared with my Dad.

Ha Ha! They were only $0.25 a box (!) when I first started smoking them. A true nickel cigar, and about the only legal thing a college student could afford to smoke. They're over $3 a box now, which means they have increased at about twice the rate of inflation, but I guess that's still a bargain.

The first one that I remember and really liked was on a Pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota in the late 70s. A friends cousin who we were staying with was a guide at a high end ranch that catered to the rich. A guy he guided for from Texas gave him a box of cigars as a tip. They were some type of Lancero's and it was the first time I had ever seen one. Well I lite the thing up as we were heading out to hunt and pretty much smoked the thing the rest of the afternoon. It was soooo good that it was a nub when I finally put it out. It really is part of the reason I smoke cigars today trying to find "that " cigar.

El Producto, 1992. I'm not proud of the selection -- just proud that I nubbed it. :cigar: Shortly after, I barfed all over my then-girlfriend's dorm room carpet. :vomit:
