On the way home from work today I stopped by the store to check out the rums. I had posted that I had not tried a really good sipping rum. I tend to go mainly with the Bourbon and Single malts. You guys gave me some good suggestions but I could not find any of the ones you guys highly recommended. There was a huge selection of Pritchard's Tennessee Rum, some Appleton's, Captain Morgan, etc. I spotted this on a shelf with some small batch bourbons. Looked up reviews and it sounds interesting and is getting some really good reviews. I'll let you know what I think when I crack it open.

@Angry Bill Yes it is. Just cracked her open and poured a couple of fingers. I don't know rum so I have nothing to compare it to however, I do know bourbon and scotch. This is a very smooth, buttery sipper. The nose is vanilla, burnt sugar, a bit of orange, and coffee. It is sweet. On the palette the most dominant note is vanilla, caramel, some spice (cinnamon I think). The finish is long and has a tinge of that sherry cask it was aged in. Like I said I don't know rums but I can tell you that this fills the bill for me. I can't wait for the weather to warm up a bit and have this one with a really good cigar after a great dinner. Glad I picked it up. Sometimes I get lucky. This is an excellent libation. I hope some of you experienced rum drinkers get a chance to try it. I would love to hear how it compares to your favorites. I would hate to think that there is something out there a whole lot better than this for just pure flavor. If there is I got to find it. Price is right at about $45.

Sounds like a winner. Folks don't realize how good sipping rum can be. Rums like Zaya, Don Zacapa, Legendario 7 year, Zafra are examples of some great sipping rums. Your rum looks great. I'll have to find a bottle and try.

Ernest Hemmingway loved rum.

Sorry if this is a thread jack, but I have a Rum question. I bought a bottle of 26 year old Appletons Rum in 1999 and never opened the bottle, is the Rum still drinkable and would it get better with age?

It will probably not have improved much, if at all. However, if stored properly, especially out of the light and too much heat, it should be fine to drink.
The proof is in the tasting! If you'd like, you can ship it to me and I'll take care of that part for you!

If you can find Ron Zacapa rum I highly recommend it! Drank it neat and perfectly paired with a cigar! In fact, I only had the small sample bottle which was exactly a 2 finger pour into my universal rum, scotch, bourbon, whiskey glass lol. I went back to the liquor store who carried it and they said it comes in and sells out they can't keep enough stock of it. Roughly $50 a bottle here in NY I think for the 750ml or 1 liter bottle. The gentlemen at the counter wasn't sure of the size of it. But that to me is well worth the price.
