Greetings Gents. Just another thread to see what everyone's habits are, and a few questions for opinions. This time regarding cedar sleeves on your cigars. I don't have a terribly large collection of sleeved sticks, and those I have aren't terribly old yet, I think the oldest I got a little over a year ago. Right now I have them still wrapped in their wooden tube tops and I know I'm taking a bit of a risk, from the sounds of things anyway. I also haven't had any issues with mold on the sticks I've smoked.
What's your style when it comes to the removal or leave-onal of cedar sleeves? I know the benefit of removal is for inspection and prevention of mold growth, are there any real benefits to leaving the cedar stay? If you've seen mold after removal, how long have you had your sticks sitting? Finally, has anyone noticed any differences between brands? Most of the reported problems seem to come from Fuente, but I have several other brands "en cedros" where I have not, or possibly don't remember, seeing problem posted about them.

I guess I didn't know that was a risk, I have kept some en cedro for up to 6 months with no problem at 69% humidity, however, and have bought some pretty yellowed cellophanes on cedar wrapped cigars that may indicate they sat around in a warehouse for awhile.

I honestly don't know for sure if storing in cedar increases risk of mold developing, or just that you don't know it's there until it might be too late to stop it. I'm hoping enough folks will share their experience to get a better idea, at least for myself.

For me, I think it would depend on how long the cigar has already been in the cedar at the point that I receive it. If the cigar was made in 2010, and I got it today, I'd probably remove the cedar.

Also, I believe that the only real purpose the cedar has is to 'ensure' the aging process in transit...Assuming you have a cedar lined humi, I guess the sleeve would be useless (?)

Casa Fuente I take off definitely. Other Fuente stuff I check and see. Non Fuente stuff I leave as I've never had issues with them.

Sorry I overlooked your post, but same question. Have you had issues with the Casa Fuente line, or just a precaution? How about the other Fuente offerings? Fuente sure does get the most attention on the subject, but again they can be some spendy and hard to find sticks.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you. It was mold.
Keyword in my post was 'blacklisted' - I'd be amazed to see actual plume develop on cellophane! !

But my question remain: does a correctly regulated humidor void the mold danger? Is cedar sleeve more prone to hold surhumidification from a previous storage?
Should I start revolving anything when putting into the humidor?

1. I think people are way more concerned about humidity than is necessary. Yes, it is important but still.
2. Do you mean revolving boxes through different coolers/humidors/wineadors/jumpadors etc? or do you mean individual cigars?
