Years ago my family assembled at my mom and dad's house for a cookout. After eating I stepped away from the table to smoke a cigarette. (yea, I know) As I'm standing, looking at a pecan tree, with several rings of evenly spaced holes made by a Woodpecker, my dad comes over and enlightens me. Keep in mind my dad was funniest when not meaning to be and the following statement was made straight faced and serious.
"The other day I took a dowel rod and measured those holes. Every one of those holes is exactly a half inch deep. Evidently that's how long that birds pecker is."
I haven't been able to look at a Woodpecker the same.

I got my ASS chewed because of this yesterday. I came to work on Monday, TOLD my boss that depending on my boys' school district, if they're out of school, I won't be coming in. Child care issues and all. I sent an email of "per our conversation yesterday" and got an ass chewing because I didn't call. I work in an industry that verbal directions are to be avoided and they are asking me to give verbal direction? I can't wait to leave this company.
They do not want any proof left that you actually called in. That pisses them off. I have had a couple bosses like that.
