I checked the humidity today with a good digital hygrometer... it's at 52 on the top rack. Way too low. So, I guess I am still having problems. The wine cooler has one large Boveda 65%, an ounce of silica beads, and two gel travel humidifiers... I don't understand why humidity is barely higher than the outside room.
Because of your multiple humidification methods. Stick with one and make sure it is not fighting all of the other ones.

One boveda is not enough. Boveda recommends one standard size pack for up to 50 sticks BUT you also need to take into consideration the space you are trying to keep humidified. Put a few more packs in there and see what happens.
Also... as mentioned, use ONE type of humidity media. These things can fight and they don't all work the same.

Is the hygrometer accurate? Have you done the test on it?

Are there cigars in it?

I have different humidification methods in my humidor and it works fine.
But, I am sure that every type of humidification system is at the same level. In addition, you two have been doing this for how many years? I would think that after a few years of practice, you two have more than mastered the art of humidor care. This gentleman seems to be on the beginning side of this hobby.

It's mostly because I don't stress out over it. sometimes one humi is at 64, sometimes, 65, sometimes 68. Kinda seems to balance itself out.

And he's been smoking for decades according to him.

Yeah that's true but in the past I had a good local tobacconist and never had a big humidor. I just kept my dozen or so cigars in a small Tupperware container with some Spanish cedar, added a little water once in a while to the florist foam, and it worked out OK.

Things now are different- I have to mail order everything. And they don't make samplers for 1-2 dollar sticks, so I order bundles of decent brands I used to smoke.

humidity is still low. I have few extra water pillows I will throw in there. I was hoping to save them for emergencies but I guess this is close enough. Humidity is only 5-10% higher than the room, at this point. The sticks need to dry out some anyways but at some point I'll have to throw in the towel.

The wine cooler has no drain, which makes me concerned that somehow its pulling humidity out of the air.

If it had an open drain, it would be less humid, just like a humidor that does not seal well.

OK, I think I got a handle on what might be going on. I took apart the cooler again, took out the cigar boxes, and noticed a little standing water in the back of the cooler. This cooler doesn't have a drain. What's happening, I believe, is that the air blowing past the heat sink is cooling the air and condensing a lot of the moisture out of the air, and the air being blown forward is drier than the air being sucked in. For whatever reason, the air in the back of the humidor is not really reaching the front, so there's a localized pocket of high humidity.

I have thought about buying some kitty litter and putting it in small bags to absorb the humidity in the back. But there still could be issues with mold, I suppose. This is turning out to be a lot more work than I planned, and given the relative low cost of my cigars, perhaps not worth it.
