Growing up a military dependant I always had a great appreciation for the sacrifice my mom and dad made. Not only was my mom a military wife but she served as well, before becoming a public school nurse, and that is how she met my father.

My Folks sent me this clip with the comment "WOW, this brought tears to my eyes". All I have to say about it is, Ooh Rah Devil Dog! The sacrifice our nations military makes is truly something special.

Thank you for all of BOTL's support. As a Soldier I have never expected anyone to appreciate what it is I and all of my brothers in arms do. I joined to serve my country but after three deployments I've realized that what I'm trained to do, what I'm capable of, and what I've done isn't for my family, friends, or the people of the United States. I do it for the guys to my left and right. I don't fight to preserve or ensure freedom for anyone; I fight to make sure that my battle buddies come home.

Wow, that was beyond powerful.
As a former Marine this really sums up what it's all about. A brotherhood that is there for each other. It can be family like the video, or it can be a fellow Marine that in your civilian life you would have never said hi to, but once you form that bond as Marines you're brothers for life.
I've never seen combat, or deployed for the current wars, so I want to give a big Ooh-rah to all the BOTL who have.
Keep bringing your brothers home safe!

Craig Mac, Thanks for sharing! I'm also a son of a veteran. My dad was in the Army on the front lines of WWII. He, like many vets, didn't talk about combat or some of the things they saw and experienced, unless it was to another vet. And I've noticed about people who have served, they don't go around bragging or looking for accolades, but most all of them said, they would do it again for their country! Amazing people! I've always been proud of my Dad's service and have a soft spot for anyone that serves our country! Thank you, nice to see something so inspiring to start the day!

Humbling video. It took the Commander in Chief to get it done. Thanks for sharing.

I'm particularly a fan of those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice whether it be in this age or the last 100 years. We are losing those who served in WWII where we won't get to hear their stories of what happened personally...we may have a written history but not the personal one. My Dad served in the Navy in WWII and lucky for me he was able to tell me a ton of stories about what took place both humorous and sad. He served on a very heroic ship under Halsey and "Ziggy" Sprague on a Destroyer that the Japanese nicknamed Destroyer X because of it's exploits. Dad actually shot down the last Japanese plane before the War was declared over...his ship had almost every type of decoration there was and some of his stories had me laughing so hard......example was that during days at sea when there wasn't any action some of the men would drain the torpedos of the alcohol and would make their own stills onboard. While in Hawaii my Dad and a friend "borrowed" the Captains personal boat and went joyriding around the Hawaiian Islands while they were on leave....they got caught and were busted down in rank...they'd have been courtmartialed had it not been they were needed to fight the war more than the Captain wanted to do that. They used to get the new Officers ( called 90 day wonders ) and throw them over the railing while they were in port....never to be caught at this as they'd sneak up on them...it was because of this kind of things that the Captain ordered no officers on deck at night w/o escort.

Amazing story, Craig, I'm so glad you shared it with us.
My appreciation and respect to all the veterans and their families, at BOTL and everywhere.
