I recently tried Four Roses Single Barrel. One of the "O" batches, can't remember all four letters. Maybe the first bourbon I've fallen in love with. The 59% ABV is nice too, warms you up when it's cold out!

I'd never heard of Pappy before I got on here. Is it really that good? The numbers I've seen floating around put it far and away above some of the nicer bourbons I've tried and firmly in the crosshairs of some unbelievable Scotches.

I've only tried a few but so far the Angel's Envy and Woodford Reserve are my fave. Seriously though, I've been trying rye as well and it am tending to lean heavier in that direction. But as tastes change often, I'm not discounting bourbon at all.

Just contemplating starting on bourbon. Never been much of a liquor drinker, mostly beer and occasionally cocktails. Recently bought a bottle of Bulleit I haven't cracked yet. Is that a good place to start or should I try something else instead?

I know that I am going to love this thread!
I am a Wheated Bourbon Lover. I really don't care very much for the Rye Bourbons, although I do partake from time to time.
Okay, I'll say it, Pappy is a Wheated Bourbon and yes, it's way, way, over rated!!! I believe that became the case, as it became harder and harder to find. Now days, it is basically no existent in any retail outlet.
Don't get me wrong, it's very, very, good, but then again, it's not the Holy Grail of bourbon!!!
Personally, my favorite bourbons are the Weller 12yo, the Weller Antique 107, Makers Mark & Makers Mark 46, all of which are wheated bourbons.

Rowans Creek....the search is over. :)

But more candidly, I like some others too. But by the ratio is heavily Rowans to all other bourbons.
I really like Rowans creek as well.
Russle's Reserve for 30
Double Oaked Woodford for 50
These are a few of my favorite things.......

I have been a bourbon drinker for quite a long time.

I really like barrel proof bourbon. I can lower the proof myself. I like how it feels in the mouth thick and syrupy. I have Stagg Jr, Elijah Craig BP, bookers open. My favorite vacillates between Stagg an ECBP.

I wish you could get all brands in barrel proof. I would pay the premium.

What is different (or better) about the double oaked? I see it from time to time but haven't pulled the trigger.
Doug,
To me it's slightly more refined and Oaky wich translates t nutty to my palate (imo) I used to drink a bottle a month and for thats 10:1 of what else I have on my shelf. Until Russell's Resevre came along.... To me Russell's is the best value in bourbon right now.
