Any normal person would buy a smaller 20-50 stick humidor to start storing more than a ziplock full of cigars.. I joined this forum not even a month ago, hence non paid member YET, won't be long, and I have been searching everyone's humidor setup.. This is what I blame on the forum when it comes to the wife.. :)

Arrived with pretty potent plastic smell. I have wiped it out twice with windex and let it air out for those days and now I have put baking soda and carbon in there for a couple days with it running, now there is hardly any smell in there at all...

Now I am in the process of buying humidity source... I think I have decided to go with heartfelt beads...I will have 4 drawers and 2 shelves coming from John in May so I have some time to fiddle with it.

But as I have seen many times over on this forum, this would have never happened if I wouldn't have joined this forum... I love it... That is why they call it BOTL... Brothers can get ya in trouble sometimes, but life wouldn't be the same without them... Thanks for all the info/help thus far.. And can't wait to ride the slope with ya.

Nice setup.

If you really want to spend the money, I personally prefer HCM beads (I like how they hold humidity and they already come bagged.) If you prefer just to spend $5 or so, there's always the kitty litter option.

I have read of different people stuck between hcm and heartfelt... I guess the reason I was leaning towards hf was the ability to add distiller water to them for humidity... Do you just put a sponge in with the hcm beads? Guess I'll read alittle more on the hcm... I do hear they hold humidity levels better than hf... Kitty litter just don't seem right to me so I won't be doing that.. Not that it is wrong at all, cause I see it working all the time I read up on it, just don't seem as steady as the beads

It's your money so feel free to do with it as you will.

Never had a problem in any humi with the HCM. In the one that I use most often, I have KL in there also that I can charge when I like.

So basically the difference is the recharge of the beads when it comes to hcm and hf... I'm not against kl as a recharge source, I don't think I want full kl tho... I was thinking about getting around 2.5-3lbs of beads for a descent bounce back.. I bought the newair 281

I know a guy who has a similar sized cooler and has 1 pound of HCM and about 1.5 pounds of KL. Works great but he doesn't use the cooling. With the cooler running, I would go more.

and sorry if it looks like Chef is hijacking your thread. :)

Nice setup. I don't think one is better than the other when it comes to HCM or Heartfelt. I have a pound of HF in my 28 bottle and a few 65 Boveda's here and there. There are a dozen ways to skin a cat.

I'm using 6-8 boveda's in my 400ct winador. I have the heartfelt beads in the bedroom 150 humi and they work great as well.

I think I prefer the no-hassle aspect of the Bovedas. Toss them in and you're done. Plus you can easily move them around and slide them between boxes.

I use cigar coffins with KL, and Boveda packs, one of each per shelf. They kind of keep each other in check.

I used to use the Bovedas to charge the KL, rehydrating the Bovedas and putting them back in, letting the KL absorb the humidity as the Bovedas released it when the humidity dipped below 65%.

I have found it's much easier to go the other way. Give the KL a good spray down when the Bovedas start to get a little dry, and as they release extra moisture above 65%, the Bovedas absorb it and recharge, keeping the wineador stable at 65%.

I ordered 3 lbs of HCM Beads last night.. Was going to go with HF but with the option to adjust the humidity level up if needed was a plus for me since I'm a newbie and not sure where I really like my sticks at.. Coming at 65% so I will keep it there for a long time and see how I like it.. Everyone seems to keep theirs around that.. Will I need KL too?
