I stewed about it for a while and finally just went ahead and did it. Go for it man.
Yea Id already emailed john and when he said June I was thinkin I'll put my order in and then just order the cooler when they are done. So pretty much right on time for me. With all the drawers in does any body have an estimate on capacity on the 281? I know Tetris skills blah blah just ball park.

What length & ring gauge is the majority of your stash? All over the map?

Of course. I don't habitually go past 50 tho.
At 46-50rg, figure maybe 25 per layer three layers deep for 75 per drawer, times six drawers is 450 give or take for the unit. Estimate lower if you're a stickler for organization and will be eating up real estate with drawer dividers. Higher if you've got a good amount of skinnies in there. 400-500?

NewAir 281 is here. It's been wiped down with a warm water with just a touch of soap and vinegar and now the door is standing open for a few days to get that "new" smell out. I'll plug her in and give her a few hours run time next week. Long time to wait until June for the shelves but wait I will. Again I want to say in all seriousness my heartfelt thoughts of contempt for the enablers here.:cigar:

I am in the same boat with ya.. Have the newair 281 but waiting on drawers... I felt that fresh baking soda and charcoal, with the door closed and running, really took the nasty plastic smell out really well... Good luck with the wineador project, looking forward to seeing the finished product

I agree. I did the same thing. Left the baking soda and charcoal in for 3 days while running and the smell was gone!

@Tennesse Dave My wineador is a AW-121E. Which is smaller then yours. I wanted the same one you got but air-n-water was sold out of scratch and dents at the time, and due to me not wanting to wait I ordered the smaller one. Plus the $66 price tag wasn't bad either.

All though I'm sure John could make shelves and drawers for it. I had already placed an order for shelves with Forrest (wineadors.com) before I saw the thread about John. Now to fill it up!!

I got the update from John Nelson yesterday. I'm #5 on the list for June. Perhaps that's a good thing. It's taking longer to get the smell out of this thing than I expected. I washed it out with Dawn, rinsed with distilled water, let it sit open for a few hours out in the morning sun after I installed an auxiliary fan. All seemed pretty good. Just a faint smell in there. I brought it inside and filled the racks with bowls and saucers of Baking Soda and Activated Charcoal and turned it on. The smell is actually beginning to get worse! I turned it off last night but still have it closed with the aforementioned deodorizers in there. If it's not any better by the weekend, I'll start the process all over again.

I'm definitely a tech geek myself. And do love the smell of a new HiFi component in the equipment rack. But this smell is just a bit too concentrated for me! As I am also impatient (It'll be a whole week tomorrow), I'm going to stop tonight and pick up some OdorXit on the way home and give that a try. Thanks for the encouragement!
