wow, never been to the cigar box but i'm not really shocked that they would be selling them. this reminds me of that episode of VICE on HBO about the rise of designer drugs popularity and how easy it is for kids to buy them, crazy.

Went in there a couple times if it is the one I'm thinking of that was downstairs in the mall. I don't believe I ever purchased anything.

I think its low class to be selling those designer drugs in the first place but the people that do them are dumb and are responsible for themselves. Getting f*cked up on some experimental chemical and getting behind the wheel of a car is clearly a bad idea. Doesn't take a genius to fathom that. If your so inclined to partake in those kinds of substances have the presence of mind to have a sober person look out for you before you take the drugs.
Really this really has nothing to do with cigars so I hope they don't get brought into it anymore than they unnecessarily have.

Agreed this really has nothing to do with cigars, that aspect is incidental. HIM* makes good points. Also, it sounds like this young guy had problems beyond just the designer drugs to me.

While the sale of drugs doesn't have anything to do with cigars, in this case the drugs were sold out of a cigar shop. Those who are already opposed to cigars and cigar stores in the area will point to this to help bolster their opposition. *That* is why I said this won't help the cigar cause.

That is sad. It scared me for a moment because there is a cigar box b and m in Tulsa that I go to from time to time. I am pretty sure there is no relation between the two businesses. The one I went to is very reputable and has a couple locations.

I wonder (and this is pure speculation without anything backing it up) if it was a desperation move to save the business? Inside the mall there is no place for customers to smoke - it was a retail store only. But there is an outlot standalone store that is a really nice B&M with a lounge, Burning Leaf. So, why park in a busy mall parking lot and fight the demon horde (aka mall walkers) to go to a store where you can't smoke when you can park easily by Burning Leaf and smoke there? I bet Burning Leaf really hurt their business.

My wife actually made a comment the other day that I should put a cigar shop in our mall.
My response was "why? So the high school kids can come in and try to steal."

I have not found any mold from anything I bought in there. And sadly thats the only place to get premium cigars in joplin. @Old Smokey buys a lot from there and has not said anything about it.

I have never seen any moldy cigars in there. They do keep the RH a little higher than I like to smoke them at, but a few weeks rest fixes that. I buy from there without hesitation.

As to the OP, I couldn't read the article for some reason,
but drug use and abuse permeates all walks of life. The owner had to know his days were numbered by dealing out of a retail shop. Dumb ass on several levels.

I think if your gonna smoke something that has labeled at potpourri be sold your taking a huge risk. But if your going to bring charges against a store that sold something that was technically "mis used" even though we all knew the intentions does that mean they should indict Wal-Mart for liquor that was labeled liquor and drank as liquor before some one killed some one drinking and driving? I'm not saying they should or shouldn't go after designer drugs and I'm not saying drinking is bad I'm just saying it's kinda a double standard

What happened to the days when kids smoked Marlboros and pot? Who decided to make synthetic pot? Isn't there enough regular pot anyway?

What kind of dumb ass smokes something called potpourri? You want to smoke pot, smoke pot. Not something that some chemist made.

Sorry, for my lack of compassion, but people no longer take responsibility for themselves or their actions.

lot of people that would normally smoke reg pot are having to Lean towards the synthetics to get around work and military drug test. It's 100 times worse and the chemicals are really screwey. It's crazy you can do meth and is out in 72 hrs but a lil green for relaxation and it could take up to a month

I may be misinterpreting your reply, but to set the record straight, they are not "misusing" potpouree to get high. For example, the "bath salts" product over here was not people misusing bath salts. Nobody was bathing in it. The product was nothing more than fake-packaged MDPV. People were peeling their skin off, hearing voices, armed standoffs, all sorts of whacked-out psychosis. The legislation to get these scumbag manufacturers and their distributers could not come soon enough.

Speaking of scumbags and legislation, Tom Wolf over here in Pennsylvania is planning to put a 20% tax on cigars.
Threadwise, this is what will kill Famous, C.I. and the industry faster than anything else. When I lived in Jersey, I watched Florio put a "luxury tax" on high ticket items, ... large boats, heavy trucks, ect. The result was all the manufacturers and dealers moved out of state, causing the state billions in unemployment and lost revenue. Entire industries left the state ! This is why history repeats itself. Because nobody listens. :(

Your right on w the bath salts causing people to go nuts! And yeah higher taxes force businesses to leave hurting local economy and then they get less tax because products aren't moving. People in power should really understand economics
