The advantage of a coolidor isn't so much that it keeps a cool temp, it's that it mitigates the effect of temp fluctuations. So as long as there aren't fluctuations in your basement, those should work fine!

I think it would be fine if it's as airtight as they say. The added bonus is you get to see your gars instead of having to open up your red treasure chest!

Good point. To be honest, I didn't think about that. I do have fluctuations, but haven't measured them yet. So what cooler do you use?

I used to use a pair of Coleman Xtreme 28qt coolers. I now just have the wineadors.

Do temperature fluctuations hurt the cigars? I'm talking about small ~5* over the course of a day.
I have zero research to verify, but my theory is that it would be better to do without them, especially in the long term. MY home tends to remain pretty much between 68-72 year round, and doesn't fluctuate that much in a single day, so I don't worry about it too much.

The nice thing about a cooler is lets say you have a swift increase of five degrees in your home due to the sun coming up. Your cooler will mitigate that rise in temp and it may only be a few degrees warmer inside the cooler (if that) when the sun goes back down. So the temp swings are both slowed and mitigated, depending on situation.

Get one of those big Hyrdometers at Wallmart, that is a great way to measure your temperature fluctuations because it tells you your high and low temps. If you can't find one, let me know because I think I have one laying around.

Are these the totes in question? Also, do you keep them in a place without much temp fluctuation? Also, what's this weather stripping you speak of?
These are just office file storage boxes and the weather stripping is the foam stuff with an adhesive you can buy at any hardware store for use around doors. Like the poster above, my house stays between 68-72, so temp isn't a concern with me.

I'll definitely have to do this in the basement. Thanks man!

You line the seal of the container then? (sorry, really not very handy)

Did you buy your new house?
