Ramon Allones Specially Selected (Weird taste in my mouth)

Just tried out the Specially Selected. It was pretty good but I had a weird thing happen to me. After almost every draw, I would get this burn/metallic taste in my mouth. If I would move my tongue around, it would have that taste against the inside of my mouth. I don't think its normal since I havent' really experienced this with many other cigars.

Am I smoking it wrong?

Almost guarantee that it is not the cigar. What did you eat before smoking?

Actually I didn't eat anything. I had some Bulleit Bourbon and some sunflower seeds. But I've had this happen to me with a few cigars. Not all of them.

You might have a better smoking experience if you put together that humidor you were mentioning. Buy a few sticks and get them in an environment that you have control over. Let them rest for a couple of months. I never had much luck purchasing cigars at a B&M and smoking right away.

ive had that metallic taste in more than one cigar. padron, tatuaje, por larranga encantos.... not in every puff though.

Admittedly not a RASS fan, I describe RASS as having a mineral flavor profile. Is the metallic description a different way of describing the same taste? Possibly that it's just that, the cigars taste profile.

That was actually a concern of mine. Because I don't get that issue with other cigars.

Just as some advice, if you haven't tried the Ramon Allones Extra Limited Edition 2011, you should. Damn good cigar.

Maybe the cigar is going through a sick period... maybe tasting ammonia? Warren is correct in saying they have some mineral characteristics but I never thought metallic while smoking a RASS.

Smoking thru a box of RASS right now, and have not experienced any metallic taste. As always YMMV

Just out of curiosity, since i've heard it several times before regarding the ammonia, what does it taste like?

It tastes like the smell of ammonia... Ha. I have smokes a "sick" RASS and never noticed a metallic taste.

I've gotten that metallic taste from a young Por Larranaga before.

Have you started new meds? Some have reported that when smoking cigar the smoke itself mixes with metal fillings in your teeth and tends to draw out that "taste" you speak of. Do you ever get this taste when not smoking cigars?

No. It's never happened. I have fillings but this metal issue has only happened with the RASS.

I have had this same issue with one box of RASS in particular. I chalked it up to "sickness" and put them down for a couple more years. IMHO, RASS are either spot on and great or way off and bad. More often than not pretty damn good.

Do you know the box date?. I'm guessing sick period. I just received a box of RASS the day before yesterday, and despite my vendors assurance that he would send me the oldest he had, the box date was MAR15. I'm not even going to try one until at least New Years.
