Hey guys...I'm noticing that a number of the sticks I smoke ROTT are very tight. Is this a function of them being too wet? Just wondering if anyone else has ever noticed this correlation. Or is it my imagination?

BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Yea, I notice the same thing. Depends on the vendor, but I generally try to give them at least 2 weeks in the cooler before I light one (sometimes I lack the will power). If you're in a really hurry to try one, you could dry boxing it for 24hrs, but that's probably only going to help the wrapper.
I come across this a lot. My guess is that the warehouses that they cigars are stored in are on the higher RH side (potentially to account for people walking in and out of the warehouse humidor all day long), so when we get them in the mail, their still too wet. In my experience, letting them sit in your humi for a few weeks helps the draw/ burn/ taste (preference).

tight draw and high RH goes hand in hand. So I'd think about dryboxing if you really, really can't wait.
But, since being on this forum, I learnt that being patient with a cigar is rewarding. Life's too short to be in a hurry and scrap the pleasure.
I always leave the stogie a week or twelve in controlled environment before I smoke it.

Im not sure how much dry boxing is going to help. IME from rolling my own a tight draw comes from one of 2 things. The first being rolling with the fillers in too high of a case resulting in a cigar thats rolled too tight or plugged. Nothing can fix this except rerolling the cigar looser to allow a better draw. The other being a cigar thats too wet. The thing about the wet cigar is you still get a decent draw not one thats completely plugged. The other issue I could see with dry boxing is thats going to dry out the wrapper but the majority of the moisture is trapped in the thicker leaves in the filler. So I'm not sure it does the trick vs giving the cigars time to really get acclimated. Just my take.
Also, if you cut a cigar and the cold draw shows the cigar has a tight draw, there is nothing wrong with putting it back in the humidor and selecting another one.
I tried to explain this to the clerk at the B&M, and they still tossed me out!

My experience is it can really help a tight draw, but wont fix every tight draw.
I have had a Four Kicks CG in my desktop for months hoping it was a wetness problem. Nope that suckers plugged.
Not a slam on CH. They make great cigars. Construction flaws happen to the best.

Over the years, I've found tight draws more of an issue of construction than humidity. To give you a recent example, I have (had) an assorted five pack of a cigar no longer found easily - Don Lino. They've been resting in my coolerdor since around 2001 and were boxed in a little open box. In other words, all five have lived next to each other for 14 years. I smoked one the other day and it was wonderful. Today, I smoked a Maduro wrapped Havana Reserve. While it was a very nice smoke, the cigar was rolled too tightly and the draw reflected that. It was a construction issue.
This doesn't address the ROTT situation that the OP mentions but it is worth noting that tight or loose draws are often a matter of quality construction (or lack thereof).
