was reading about Cohiba Siglo V a bit and came across this quote form a forum that recently opened the flood gates(not to name it per say;))

"I have tried most sizes of the Cuban Cohiba, with varying results. They are ALWAYS hit or miss because there is no quality control for Cuban Cigars like you'd get from, say, Rocky Patel."

I just thought that this was hilarious. I recently met a guy that told me Cuban Cigars are "Shit" and I seem to find that the common general consensus is negative among the uneducated.

More for me i guess...

I'm very much ok if the general consensus is that CCs suck. It means more for those of us who aren't stupid. I will laugh heartily, however, when those some idiots complaining about the quality of CCs are also falling all over themselves to buy some if the embargo ever gets lifted. While those of us who know, will be sitting on a good stock of well aged sticks.

generalizations suck. with that being said, there certainly ARE some cuban cigars that SUCK! just as there are some dominicans and some nicaraguans and most hondurans(did i say that?) but statements that broad are usually made by the smartest person in the room!

A guy like that reviewer is a novice. You can't just smoke Habanos fresh out of the box. That's what it sounds like he did. It varies from cigar to cigar, of course. RASS with '14 boxdates, for instance, are smoking great ROTT, or with two weeks rest. Okay, fine. But that doesn't mean all Habanos from '14 are like that. Besides, those same RASS after 18 months of rest will be a totally different cigar. A lot of guys just don't have that kind of patience, especially in this age of instant gratification. A good rule of thumb (for me at least) is to allow 18 months of rest from the box date. But sometimes I'll make an exception and smoke one after 6-8 months. There's plenty of fine Dominicans and Nicaraguans to keep one preoccupied while Habanos mature.

of all the NC sticks that I try, there are very few that I feel the need to buy again. I have yet to smoke a cc that I didn't love. Maybe it's the whole forbidden fruit thing that is clogging my judgement.

just guessing that the subject brings out strong opinions. and sometimes that those that think they have to speak the loudest tend to be the "uneducated and/or ignorant" that you speak of. they can be on either side of the aisle.
