I've come back to smoking cigars after a nearly 14 year absence. I started smoking cigars in the 80's (almost always Macanudo Baron de Rothschild and Hyde Parks when they were made in Jamaica and inexpensive (like $45 a box shipped from Famous).
After having kids at the end of the 90's, I put smoking aside for some years starting around the end of 2001. Fortunately for me, I'd set up a coolerdor in the basement and kept it maintained (using beads from cheap humidor) that held the couple hundred cigars I still had left. So far, all of the cigars I've smoked over the past couple of weeks have been decent to outstanding.
What's been so interesting is how many of the old brands I'd tried are no longer and new brands I'd never heard of are now popular. Just to get up to speed on trying some of the new names, I've ordered a variety of samplers from online sellers but won't be trying them for a few weeks or more as they rest and acclimate.
I tend to like mild to medium cigars in lonsdale to churchill sizes with robustos being the most common in my stash. I have disposable butane lighters for years and an original Xikar cutter. Early on, I favored a punch but mostly because I didn't know better.
