My Robson crapped out on me today was only about 2 months old.my last one before that lasted two years. Had a few other torches and they didnt last long either. I have a cheapie spark from walmart I just found in my cabinet and its doing well for now. I always use ronson fluid amd empty em before filling. Is there anything I could do differently to get some lifespan? Is it just luck of the draw? Do any of you guys take em apart to try to fix em? Might dissect a few soon to play around

I'm using a Bugatti (cigarbid) and Lotus butane for mine. Some times just matches and a good cedar spill is perfect.

I seem to get the best lights from matches but torches are nice when golfing and stuff maybe ill order some cigar matches

None of my torches seem to want to hold fuel this week-end so I can't help you.

I resorted to use spills and lighting them with zippos. The non-converted zippos: even the zippo torch insert is giving me the crap!

Most problems with lighters stem from how they are refilled...I have over 30 lighters and don't have any problems with them because I learned early that lighters can be a little contentious when they aren't refilled correctly. As long as you are getting a spark then that means your lighter will work...no spark means either the supply line is not connected or the metal insert is bent inside...which can be straightened with a paper clip..gently. Compressed Air is your friend as well as a few well placed shots will blow out those little critters that accumulate inside the jets.

Always use good butane....refill w/o letting overspray become a problem.....because overspray or a bent nozzle will let air inside the chamber causing the original problem of not letting your lighter work. Air mixed with butane will cause it to sputter and not light effectively and then you have to start over and purge the entire chamber....that means emptying it until you don't hear any more hissing. Place the lighter on an even surface and then put the can of butane at a 90 degree angle on top...press down for about 8 seconds....stop....then another 4 seconds and you're done. Wait for about 3 minutes and then light. Some say that dialing the lighter towards the minus all the way is the right way and then recharge....then when recharged dial it toward the + side for a quarter turn and light...if that doesn't light then dial it up again another 1/4 turn.

I had a set come with my Vertigo lighter and I followed them until I memorized how to properly fill the tank. Now it's like a second nature. I have it for quite some time now, I want to say 4 or 5 years??? I'm guessing on the years. Could be more or less but close enough. I kind of go by the way I take care of my truck. You take care of it, it'll take care of you.

And for crying out loud, you need at least 1 Xikar in your collection of lighters!!! LOL.

I use a Williams Sonoma kitchen torch. I've had it for almost ten years, fill it twice a year. It will take about half a can of fluid.

It's true...when you learn something early on and incorporate it into your rituals it does become second nature and with so many lighters that I have if you don't know how to keep them up it can be costly to just throw em away and replace. My problem is I love lighters ( must have been a pyromaniac in my last life ) and it's hard to pass them up. I have about 4 Xikar and others that come with a lifetime guarantee....you'd think that's all I need but eff NO....I just see something that's different and I must own it.

I have a few xikars that I never can get to work, which is most likely user error. The most reliable torch I've found though is ronson torches, available at Walmart for cheap. I've never had any issue with them and it's no big deal if you lose one.

I carry a zippo and just use that as to me, it's so much easier than worrying about whether or not a torch will work. And there's something about that zippo click that gets me.

Brother Aaron...the best "lighter" I've ever had is a real torch, normally used for hobby or light industrial applications.

PROS:
-The tank is massive and rarely needs filling
-Fully adjustable to either jet or soft flame
-It's heavy-duty and has never failed to light
-Only $50 on Amazon (way cheaper than most Xikars)
-Perfect for clearing enemy bunkers!

CONS:
-Clearly a "function over form" thing (let's face it: she's @ss ugly! )
-It's not a pocket lighter, so you're not going golfing with it.
