The wife and I just bought a new dishwasher and stove this past weekend. I installed the dishwasher already. Well the damn fridge decided to get jealous and said me too! This morning I opened the fridge and the freezer temp said 30 but is set at 2. Box of frozen waffles was soft as well as the waffles. Came home this afternoon and the freezer temp was up to 33. I turned the breaker off and back on to see if maybe will reset or something but all is hear is the fan and no compressor. Son of a .... Guess I'm going back to Sears.

My $900 fridge started leaking water right after the one year warranty expired. Meanwhile, the 40 year old kelvinator that I gave my sister is still running top notch. Freaking appliances.

That would be one giant coolidor. Don't have that big a collection yet.
"Yet" being the operative word.

I'd start collecting empty boxes, if I were you... everyone thinks they are going to be that one special lemming that doesn't go over the edge, but guess what happens? if you need a hint, we can just say they don't call it the "slippery slope" for nothing.

One, I think my wife would kill me if I even had enough to fill 1/3 of that 22cf fridge and 2, I doubt she would let me keep that thing.

Think of a reason to keep it. Then fill a cooler, and then another cooler so you just keep getting the wife used to the volume of your collection... then, move the collection into the fridge. (This is what I did, anyway.)

The new job I have is delivering appliances. And from what I see daily, we replace things that are 20 or 30 years old with things that will last maybe 5 if you are lucky. Manufacturers figured out that by making things that last they make less money.

Same thing here. Maytag. $650 lasted twenty months. Repair costs for vapor "collection",
"( freon) leak discovery" repair, and recharge would have exceeded all practical solutions. Junked it. That "energy saver " refrigerator cost me $300 a year excluding power.. .....

Meanwhile the FrankenFridge in the basement ( with the big chrome ice-cream truck style handle ) was from the 60's and was retired in 2012. Had to take it apart to carry it out of the house.

Exactly....I talked with a repair guy who basically said the same thing except that they converted everything to be built with cheap(est) parts that WILL wear out within 7 years. They needed to do this because they were losing money with product that was built to last around 20 years and now just about every appliance is made on the cheap as far as moving parts. I bought a brand new house with top of the line appliances and every single one of them has been replaced within that 7 year period...washer/dryer/built in micro/dishwasher/5 burner stove/water heater...f/n money pit house.
