I keep noticing this on some cigars, a distinct salt flavor when im in the last inch or so. Smoked an Illusione Epernay corona today where the salt showed up at 1.5" and increased from there until it was a bit of a distraction.

Not just an observation though. I'd like to know if this may be tied to salt based 2 way humidification systems like HF or Bovedas. If you use clay beads or kitty litter, do you get the salty flavor at the end?

While Ive noticed a saltiness in some cigar profiles I can't say its been something consistent in the finale of sticks Ive smoked and I use both Boveda and KL. Though I don't think the KL your supposed to use is clay based, it should be silica.

I have noticed a saltiness in some cigars. Sometimes it shows up in the form of an almost salty pretzel flavor. I don't think it has anything to do with the beads though. I use HF, as well as, Bovedas and it only shows up occasionally in cigars. It has always been a pleasant flavor to me though.
@HIM*, he wasn't referring to clay kitty litter, he was referring to HCM type beads.

Saltiness is not unheard of in a cigar. Sometimes described as mineral. I have had this in a few cigars, MF Conn comes to mind. Robert Caldwell even described his newest release as salty. As long as it's not a flavor you pick up in every one of your cigars, then I would consider it normal.

Lolz.

Thanks for the replies dudes.

It's not a consistent finding even among cigars in the same box. Last night was the first time it got to be a distraction. Typically it's just a "hmm, that's interesting" type of thing.

Feel like I notice it mostly in milder smokes, and always in the ones I'm really enjoying, as it shows up at the very end
