I did Newb trade as a sponsor for about 2 months. I can definitely say that I got some great smokes from my guys, things that I love to smoke and always keep in the humi. I also got smokes that I would never buy, and some more that I wouldn't smoke. After a while, I stopped sponsoring; I was starting to amass smokes that I just wasn't smoking.

For your concerns, don't worry about trying to "wow" your sponsor. Pay attention to the rules in the first post, be patient with CaTeacher, because he's busting his ass with it, and keep in communication with your sponsor.

I can only speak from a newbs perspective. Honestly, I wish I had opted for a cash deal. I say that because of the generosity of cigars I was sent, I felt bad because I was sent so much more than I sent. With that being said, I think there are two really important things. First is, that you send cigars that you smoke and enjoy. Second, is that you pay it forward anyway you can, don't just disappear. These seem like common sense and the right thing to do, but from reading this thread seems like people haven't always done that. The golden rule , treat others the same way you want them to treat you. I look forward to when I can sponsor a newbie and give them a memorable welcoming experience.

I'm a newb and asked to be placed on the list to be sponsored for a trade several days ago, and still haven't been. My guess is that plenty of vets to the board have figured out that its not such a hot deal. I could be wrong though, and it could just be how long it usually takes.

All I can say is that if it's typical to get cheaper sticks from a newb, I am going to break the trend and make someone's day! (I'm new to the forum, but not new to cigars).
I used to sponsor guys, but then fell on harder times... so there is that: I can't buy cigars at the rate/quality I used to.

I think another reason you are seeing longer wait times is because there are so many more newbs these days. Don't worry, though. Bill will make sure you get your turn, and you'll see this place is all about sharing the share.

And to answer the OP: I smoked most of what I got from sponsoring newbs, and gave the few I wasn't interested in to the troops. More often than not, the stuff that came from newbs gave me a chance to reflect on just how much my palate had changed.

having run the newbie trade thread myself for several years, i can honestly say it is sometimes tough when the sponsors die down. with the large influx of new guys, teach has it even harder.
i think the important thing to remember is pretty much what has been intimated by several guys. as a sponsor, i never really expect anything to come from the newbie side. that's the whole idea. they are newbs and shouldn't necessarily have access to front line stuff. i know there are a few who actually aren't newbs to the sport, just to the board, and there are those that are only trying to make a score. but luckily these are few and far between. the purpose is for the newbs to get a tr. nothing more. the bonus is when the sponsors get the warm feeling kicking a guy in the nads when he least expects it.
so, if you are reading this and are eligible to be a sponsor, please consider going over and taking a turn. it's a great way of contributing to the brotherhood.
(unless you're like @shadowcam and only in it for the money!:joyful:)

Thanks Bob. Make me look like a jerk. Ha. So I have to give up all my best sticks and get shit sticks in return to be good botl? Got it. I think I contributed plenty. I'm just a little more selective on who gets my love now. Spent years trying to get be the best Botl. Gets tiring once you are a FOG. Fyi- I do know you are messing with me :) When are we meeting up next?

Looking back on it, I wish I had known then what I know now (musical reference). I honest feel bad nearly two years later about what I sent @King Kill 33 (Doug). However, his generousity set me on a path where I now want to pay it forward and also payback those who show generosity. One of the reasons I have picked up his lists, or passed to him is due to the kindness and help he showed me when I first started doing trades. I always remember those who helped me, and look for ways to exact my revenge. Speaking of revenge...I think it's about that time to get more revenge on @hdroadglide
