The dude playin the dude disquised as another dude
So I decided this year to leave the comfort and security of my corporate position and strike out with a startup. I'm a land surveyor in the oil and gas industry so the timing is very risky.
This is something I've always wanted to do ( be in business for myself) and even in light of the fact that I have 3 kids and a wife to support, I felt like it was the right time to take this risk.
I made that decision in January, and today marks the win of our first big project. We have had work, but not enough to get anywhere close to breaking even. This project may just help us get to the black by the end of the year.
For me, since I'm directly leading the work, this means the job is just starting. Now beyond establishing our processes, financing the payroll, putting my heart in to every decision. Those are all very taxing duties but until now my effort hasn't helped bring in substantial revenue (for our business model anyway).
I don't know that this project will make our year, but I am very excited at the potential. This forum is very much a brotherhood from what I'm learning, and because of that I wanted to share a happy and positive note with you all.
To hard work and making your own way!
