I think my cigar has....dandruff?

I stopped by my favorite B&M today and it turns out they were have a LUJ event. I have never tried this brand so I picked up one of the new LUJ Serengeti lanceros. The wrapper was quite toothy and the cold draw was great. As soon as I put the flame to it though these white spots like dandruff appeared. The photo below shows how they look after I did a relight. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Any idea why it did this?

I think it has to do with how toothy the cigar is. It's like a shadow of the original tooth on the cigar. Best pic I have that shows it is a PDR AFR-75, which is very toothy (you have to zoom in a little to see it)


Also this reminds me of the same way a vein can be seen in the ash sometimes.

Could be way off, but I've thought about the same thing too @Rupe....or maybe your cigar just has dandruff lol!

It's happened to me as well. But I never really took notice to it and continued to smoke without issues. But I'm curious now as to what it really is??

I was really surprised at how it suddenly appeared when I was toasting the foot. It was there a little bit during the normal burn but it was really pronounced during the higher heat of the light (and relight). I was assuming it was related to the "tooth" of the wrapper but have no idea what would cause it to do that. I have smoked many cigars with toothy wrappers before but have never seen anything like that happen before....freaky!!!

I had that happen with the one and only LUJ I smoked. That's all I've got....

I've seen it once or twice before.

Another related observation is I've seen what looks like little hairs grow out of the wrapper right at the burn line on some wrappers

My theory of this, having noticed this as well, is that they are mineral deposits in the leaf. I read somewhere that magnesium in the soil is what causes a whiter ash in many tobacco leaves grown around volcanic areas, like san andreas leaf. Just a guess, but I'm betting small amounts of concentrated magnesium in the leaf is the culprit.

I've noticed this on some of my cigars as well (can't put a finger on which ones specifically). I'm with some of the other answers here, I had assumed it was a byproduct of the "tooth", but as I read through these answers I may have been wrong. It is interesting, though.

I have noticed it with a lot of the padrons that I smoke. Especially with age.

I've always thought it was just oils coming out of the tobacco as it burns.

I've seen it on cigars occasionally. Padrons right from the store. Quintero right from the store. It seems to me it's always stogies that hadn't rest in my humidor. Maybe humidification error?
Likely something within the leaf.
