Holy crap...the guys at Field's are almost like family to me. Been blowing thousands there every year since 2000...

Are you a former WNY'er?
I am. I raced 1/8 buggies out at a track in East Aurora many years back when I'd come home for a few weeks in the summer. Fields is the only place that had nitro and parts for me.

@ChefBoyRG54 : I've been flying RC for many years now, although a younger friend of mine is the guy with all the quad stuff. PM me before you go spending a fortune on one. This kid I know is an expert (and quite frankly, a flippin' genuis). He flies at quadcoper contests and everything... he'll put you on the right track. (y)

Strongly recommend you visit the beginner quadcopter section at RCgroups.com :

Brother - I live in E.A.! If you ever find yourself back here, we need to herf. @8ball too!
Hello

I will be this fall. Probably staying in Franklinville I'll let you know. Sorry for the hijack Ryan.
Did someone say Franklinville ? Live 20 mins away and play golf there.

Ryan, co-worker's father just bought one but doubt it was as serious as this one. He is enjoying it so far, and when I heard that it made me take a quick look on Amazon. They do look pretty cool and if now you and this thread cause me to buy one - you're breaking it to my wife !
Go for it

I have 3 friends that own quadcopters, drones whatever you'd like to call it. 2 of them usually never fly it anymore because it's always crashing, most likely because they suck at flying it or just being plain stupid. They complain it's alot of money at times to fix it, so they don't use it anymore.

Another friend and fellow very well respected photographer I know, uses it at emergency scenes for aerial photography. Which actually is pretty badass, since you can learn a lot from it from a fire department point of view.

Hopefully, you won't be doing this or have a neighbor who isn't afraid to pull out a shotgun and shoot the son of a gun out of the sky.....

Just a tidbit of information: there's a huge difference between "drones" (autonomous, generally military, frequently armed) and "RC multi-rotors" (flown from a transmitter for sport or commercial / camera purposes). Unfortunately, the latter category is sometimes filled with nitwits who think it's okay to spy on neighbors. (n) Like any other technology, it can be abused -- but these are definitely not drones. Source: me...I've been flying R/C since 2000.

The clean out is overdue

But it's become less a question of if and more a question of which. Now that the wife fully disagrees it has become a must happen
It is always better to ask for forgiveness than permission. I thought you had been married long enough to realize the intricate details of buying things your wife disapproves of.

It's a fun game to try to justify it to get until she agrees. Hasn't worked yet but I told her I'm definitely buying one

Lots of fun to play with. For my senior design in mech engineering me and friend built a rc hybrid helicopter using a arduino uno micro controller to program it do do different uav task. We then did the same with his quad but it's mostly just fun to fly. It did do some cool security things though if you want to program them to fly over your property and shit.
