I have tried several things for making portable humidity container, none was perfect. I tried to make units from tubos, screens and whatnot, and nothing came half as nice as the in-humidor results achieved with coffins and craft mesh.

A few days ago, I pass around these at the dollar store:

so the little hamster in my puppy head started to run on that spinning wheel

I decided I was to get one for a first try.
Pop it open, trash the badly smelly colorful beads (mine were purple) and clean both ends of the container with sodium bicarbonate to get rid of the stench.

then I waited forever until the next day came, it must have took like two thousand hours or something, but the next day came by and I could finally clean the container with water and let it dry.

Once filled with kitty litter, I gave it a try in a double ziploc with a hygro, and the RH did spread nicely.

here's what it looks like

the clip is optional, which can be useful to put in finger travel packs

Soooo I gfigured I'd share in case someone finds it interesting or is in search for a similar solution.
Those stinky car vent air freshner(?) are even available on amazon, if youc an't find them locally (search for chic auto air freshner)

Enjoy!!

You can use a lot of different products out there to put your KL inside...it's all about your imagination. The thing you want to do is try to have as much KL exposed as possible as I use the large soap travel containers and just drill little holes in the top. The containers usually are good for humidors that are sized from 75 to 100 count size. Drill with a bit that is smaller than the litter so you don't have issues with it leaking out if it were to get turned over.

I can but the idea is using products we have around us that can be converted to a KL container. I've even used the travel toothbrush plastic units...drill a few holes ( small ones ) and fill with the KL...perfect for humidors that hold 50 cigars. The nice thing about this device is its great and cylindrical and fits in any humidor. You can even use up to any amount you want....just remember that one plastic device is good for about 50 cigars...so do the math and figure it out that 3 of them work for 150 cigars. They fit so easily at the bottom, sides or top.

Well, if you feel like it, post some examples; it can spark the imagination of brothers to make their own. ;)

Here is one such item I converted into a container...it is a box that came with some great cigars....it slides and I filled it with KL and open it about an inch:::

I have about a dozen of these as they are just containers that used to have that crappy foam in them to control RH....I took the foam out and replace it with KL and use the screen so that nothing leaks out::::

There is tupperware containers that come in all shapes and sizes...just look at K Mart, Walmart, etc. and use your imagination as far as what would fit well inside your own humidors. Drill little holes in the top of the containers to let the KL breathe....

Interesting. I've done the drill game. Kitty litter in socks. Right now it's just an open container at the top shelf and bottom of my wineador.
I'll have to keep my eye open for something like this.
