In about a month, I am going to be taking a trip out of the country and will be bringing the cigars for my group. To reduce any possibility of issues during air travel, I am probably going to remove the bands and not take the cigars in the box that they came in. I was thinking about going to a local cigar shop to see if they had a box that matched the cigar size(Monte #2). Another option I considered was to buy one of those cigar jars and use that for storage/transportation.

Any recommendations? I saw some acrylic cigar jars on Amazon but I'm not sure which size I need. It would need to hold 25 or so Montecristo #2's.

the one I bought a couple of years ago was orange..

really wasnt what I wanted.. but I couldnt resist the $19 price tag..

yellow, orange, and tan seem to be the colors they get in and put on clearance every now and then.. I dont know that Ive ever seen the black ones go on clearance before..

I have the orange one as well. I would recommend fieldsupply.com for sure.

Yes - get the orange and for the same reason that flight data recorders are bright orange; in case of a crash, investigators will be able to locate the flight data and your cigars. I mean, someone may as well enjoy them, right?
Ha!

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I used to have a 15 cigar capacity one that looks like those, I think it was called cigar caddy, but I don't know what happened to it. One issue I remember with it was that it always had a strong smell of adhesive/plastic/chemical in it so I never wanted to use it . Anyone had that issue with any of the versions recommended above?

^^^ this ^^^

used mine for about a year.. drug it all over Africa.. beat the hell out of it.. etc... never a problem.. then bombed it out to a close friend who took it to Afghanistan to use as storage.. who has also beat the hell out of it for a year or longer at this point.. never a problem..

no smells.. keeps a good seal.. takes abuse.. and is cheap... cant really ask for more than that IMO..

Since you're leaving in about a month, buy one now. That way, if you do feel that there's a bit of a plastic smell that you're worried could be imparted to your cigars, you will have plenty of time to deal with it.

Go to a pet store and get some activated charcoal/carbon. Pour a bunch into a container and put it into the travel humidor. Seal it and let it sit for three or four days. That will get rid of the smell. It typically only happens if the humidor was recently manufactured as it will still be doing a it of "off-gassing". My guess is, however, a humidor that's on clearance is probably on sale because it's been sitting around for a while.

Anyway, it's what most of use who use the plastic coolers for our main humidors have done to remove the plastic odor from them and it works really well. For added benefit, as soon as you're done with the charcoal, toss in a Boveda pack and three or four cigars. Then the plastic will absorb some of the cigar aroma instead.

Funny you should mention "off gassing", my wife has tried to get me to stop doing that for years. Don't tell her about activated charcoal. Next thing you know it will be hidden in my burrito.

I got mine used from another member here but I've never had a problem with my herfador. It works great and I love it, it's been to the desert, car shows, pool parties, long walks on the beach, sand dunes, Hearst castle, The Queen Mary, small Yachts, neighbors house, my friend Steve's ex old ladys house up in the mountains, bike rides, drive in theaters, no herfs though cause I never seem to make them. I'm sure it's been to one or two other places as well but I can't remember right now but they do work great. Kthanks

I have a 5, 15, and 50 count. Never a problem with smell. I do store them open though when not in use. Also, check Cbid, that's where I got my 50 count cheap.

I was afraid of using my big 40ct because of the smell. I left it open with a fan blowing across all the pads, still felt like it smelled too strong. Then I said screw it and used it anyway. Now it smells like cigars. Didn't notice any ill effects to my smokes. Gonna be packing it again today for my weekend trip.
