This one has been sitting around for a while. Tend to stay away from the larger rg and length premium cigars (don't care on yard gars) because I don't have 2+ hours to smoke and enjoy without doing something concurrently.

With thanks to AR who used to be on the cbid forum, but we have done beer for cigar trades via email the last few years.

Had no idea what this one was until I pulled the foil off. Original release Illusione MJ12. Cold draw medium tight some spicy notes among sweet hay and coffee beans.

First light was heavy on the black pepper. Disappointed initially given the age, (I prefer milder spectrum) thought maybe the foil prevented the mellowing of the aging process.

But an inch in, and its settled in nicely with a touch of sinus bite if the retrohale is over 50% draw volume, but within my tolerance. Nice creamy texture in the mouth, very long finish. Starts with cedar and a little spice, then a bit of semi sweet nuts or tea, and settles into a dairy cream with honey.

Fantastic cigar. A bit fuller than I prefer, so likely not going to seek more but this is a great smoke while brewing out in the garage. Hopefully the rest of the cigar continues along the same track as the first third.

Edit: I smoked this thing for two and a half hours and still didn't nub it, put it down so I could cook dinner and transfer the brew to the fermenter. It was good to the end. Got a lot of distractions in the last half with wife n son joining me in the garage as well as keeping on the hop schedule for brewing. So I can't say if there was any major changes in flavor as I was concentrated more on other stuff. But it was good, a bit fuller than I prefer, but would gladly smoke again if I ever had 3 hours to spare for a smoke

So how was it? I'm interested in them, used to like the Undercrowns before I moved to milder smokes so thought it would be interesting.
Judging from what you just said, I think you should definitely seek them out. They have the Undercrown flavor profile but with a little additional sweetness and the spice has been dialed back quite a bit. I would put it at a solid medium in body, but still medium-strong in strength (I ended up having to crack a Dr. Pepper halfway through, then again this was on a mostly empty stomach). I think I prefer these to the original personally, and if I had the choice between the two I would probably take a Shade.

My ride home cigar for today - Curivari Reserva Limitada. Loved this cigar. I usually think all the miscellaneous flavors people talk about is BS. I almost never taste anything that I can really identify. However I got a few distinct flavors out of this one on the retrohale. I got a hay like flavor that became pretty pronounced at the midway point. And just past the half way point, I got what I thought was a hint of graham cracker. Blew my mind.

Try the new world Connecticut by AJF. Or the Mason Dixon South
Early on, I liked a lot of AJF stuff, but as I've moved into milder cigars, everything I've had from AJ has been bad to awful. The New World was one of the worst cigars I've had in recent months. I kept going, expecting improvement but it was absolutely dreadful. Very little interest in trying anything else from AJF. I do have a Mason Dixon South in the humidor. Had two Norths as well, tried one and didn't care for it.

Dry boxing some cigars for Tuesday when I can finally smoke again after 15 days. Darn insurance blood tests.

Such a pain. Why not just stick with illicit drug testing.

Current employer required a tobacco test, both oral swab and urine in addition to drug testing. I'll be with them for 7 more days. (nothing cigar related though :) ) Had to abstain from pipes, cigars, and snuff for a month. Not fun. It was that or pay another $40/mo for tobacco use.
