Hello all. I'm a new pipe smoker from Delaware. I been thinking about taking the leap for years but I believe it was some of the threads on this forum and some YouTube videos that threw me over the edge. I found pipesandcigars completely by accident and ended up ordering a couple of Missouri Meershaum pipes plus a few blends of bulk tobacco. So far I'm only having a couple of issues. First is I am unable to tell the difference between Captain Black Regular and Captain Black Cherry. I can smell the difference in the bag but both taste the same in my pipe. Second is my pipe seems to get pretty hot but when I sip or puff on it but I get very little smoke. I have a feeling that both of those problems are due to being new at this and will improve with my technique. The final issue is just totally me. There comes a time whenever I'm enjoying my smoke and the pipe goes out and after the third attempted relight I suddenly realize "hey there's no tobacco left you're just trying to light the bottom of the bowl on fire. Idjit!" I'm looking forward to being part of the forum and learning from the tips and experience of anyone willing to share.

I'm starting to think I'm just packing the bowl too lightly. I will definitely check those out again. Thanks

Welcome from Arizona! Definitely check through the pipe subforum. Different tobaccos will behave differently in your pipes. Not all pipe tobaccos produce clouds of smoke and puffing too hard on many trying to produce large amounts of smoke leads to tongue bite. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome to BOTL from Long Island, NY! Nice to see another fellow piper here! Check out our pipes section for all the details and plenty of useful info. As always if you need help or have questions, you're definitely in the right place!!

Always glad to see another piper on here. As Justin (Stin) said, there's a damned fine group of pipers here (and more than one nut job - one of whom is writing this)
He's right on the nut job part!!

Glad I got in after the nut job label.

The pipe guys here are great. Read up, smoke as many different tobaccos as you can try. Your technique will develop as you smoke. Enjoy your stay here!

Buy Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Walter Raleigh aromatic. This is the easiest baccy to learn with and good quality. IMHO every beginner should start with these. Thank me later and welcome. Stay smokey

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I'm sure I won't have a problem fitting in. I've been told more than a few times that I'm a few ants short of a picnic.

@thedismaltrade I will definitely add at least one of those tobaccos to my next order.
