I'm thinking about possibly making a box purchase and I'm not sure where to begin. I don't smoke a lot of CC's other than some of the ones you guys have sent me so I don't know too much about them. I do enjoy H. Uppman Half Coronas and Hoyo De Monterrey's but I'd like to branch out a little. I'm thinking about either El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme, Diplomaticos No. 2, or H. Uppman Mag 46. I'm looking for opinions, experiences and advice from some of the Brothers that are knowledgable in CC's. I know everyone's palate is different and what you like might not be what I like. The cigars I picked out were based on brand and the description of the flavor profile. Take me to school guys.

Of those 3, I would definitely take the ERDM, I love those cigars. I think they have great balance overall, a nice medium cigar with good flavors that doesn't have too much cedar like some cigars can have. If you like spice, you should try some Partagas. If you want a Robusto get the PSD4. If you want some smaller cigars, the Party Shorts are a must. The Ramon Allones SS can be a popular one from people coming over from NC's as it can be on the stronger side. Seems like that cigar is a love it or hate it type. I love Bolivar but it's definitely unique and on the stronger strength profile. Montecristo #4 should be on your radar, as well as the #2.

I always recommend to people starting out to just buy as many different kinds as you can so you can figure out what you like. Either buy a bunch of boxes and do splits with people, or be on the look out for 5ers. I personally would just buy a box and if you can't find people to split with, you can always and easily sell off the rest of the box if you don't like them. Or if you can't afford buying a bunch of boxes, buy a box and sell off 20. Unless you buy a Guantanamera or some crap like that, you will never be stuck with cuban cigars.

Thanks for all the info. I have had a couple PSD's and some RASS and they were enjoyable. I have a few Monte's and some RyJ's I'll have to revisit. I've got a Trini Fundi I'm looking forward to and a custom rolled that I got from @shadowcam.

I go for mostly small ring gauge stuff seems to be my favorite. I like Bolivar PC, Party Shorts and really enjoy PSD4. I haven't had the chance to try the Mag 46 but from what I've heard they are pretty solid as well.

Lots of good sticks out there, try more singles/fivers before committing to a box.
Then you will need a second box,to let the first one age.
Then other brands to have some selection.
And second boxes to let THEM age.

See where I'm going?

Monte 4 was my first cc. It sold me on them. It was also my first box purchase. Don't go too off the path just starting out. Go with something easily identifiable as Cuban. Your also testing out a source and the ordering/hoping it's not confiscated process. Start small, but not necessarily bargain.

I really like the Upmann 2. The R&J 4's are fantastic across the board right now. I hear the R&J Churchills are also really good right now. I have a box resting. RASS and Bolivar are richer and stronger imo. And a great smoke that seems to be universally liked but somehow still underrated is the Juan Lopez 1.
As far as advice, I always perk my ears up when @AlohaStyle or @SurpriseMVP voice their opinion on good smoking Cubans. They have been at it a long time and know what they are talking about.

Just get 10k together and go all in. By the time you smoke them all, most will have some incredible age!

But of your 3 your thinking I take the Erdm by a mile. The mag46 isn't bad but lacks excitement and complexity. The dip2 I just haven't been a big fan. The aged Erdm I've had were glorious

James, check out the RyJ Mille fleurs and Party Shorts. Cuba has some great budget cigars, imo. I personally dig the stuff in the 5x42 from a few different marcas. For H. Upmann, try the conny 1 or the petite corona.

Trust me, DON'T listen to this guy :) In all honesty, all of the recommendations made so far are spot on. As a CC newb (only been at it for about 7 months now), I started off with a few fivers. Then progressed to multi-box purchases. As recommended above, I sold some off, traded some for other CCs, smoked some, and bombed some. After finding some that I really enjoyed, I bought boxes of those to age. For the 3 that you're looking at, I would personally go ERDM or Mag 46. Enjoy your journey into the dark side!
