Has anyone had a Dominican Bolivar?

I was gifted one a while back from a BOTL down in GA. I enjoy a strong/bold cigar, LFD being some of my fav's, but this stick got me pretty messed up! Anyone had one or had a similar experience? Could I have been doing something wrong?

Did you have a meal prior to smoking it and was it paired with a beverage of any sort?

Good point Spenny. No I did not eat for about 4 hours prior but I did have some Buffalo Trace and some brews. I've done this with many strong sticks before, especially on the golf course, and not had the same end result. I definitely got sick with this one.

Sounds to me like it may have been a Confradia which to me is one of the best kept secrets in the General portfolio. That stick with some age on it is a monster.

It had age and it was a friggen beast! Most powerful stick I've ever had! Never heard of the Confradia though...

Last year Famous was closing out Bolivar Lonsdales on CA. Picked up 50 for under a buck each. I've smoked maybe a dozen so far, and I'd consider them medium at best, with a nice, somewhat sweet finish. Since Famous no longer carries them, here's a link to the same line at CI.

If the one you had came from this line, I would say that the hit you took was just a fluke.

If the band was squared off at the top, with a man's portrait on it, then is was probably the much harder hitting Cofradia. Oh, and according to JR's web site, the Cofradia was blended by Padron. If true, I may have to look into them.

Thanks for the reply @Argus17, the one you reference at CI is the one I had. Must've been a fluke then but man, it made me sick! Was such a hard hitting cigar I had to cut it short!

I just came in from the smoke room, watching my Eagles (DVRed) hang on over the Patriots. Smoked one of these Bolivars, and it was as I remembered, medium strength, and very sweet. Some cigars just affect different folk different ways. I've always been able to handle heavy hitters. I could do a Cain F before breakfast, but Kinky Friedman made a medium body cigar, I think was called the Lone Star, that kicked my butt every time. I loved the flavor of these, but 3/4 of the way through I would be turning green, and would have to toss it. I had a bud who could not handle hard hitters, but would smoke these Lone Stars to the nub, and not experience any ill effect.

So this guy @Argus17 says to give it another shot, he'll send me a few of these Bolivars to try them again. Tells me that he's thrown in an additional rare stick. Tells me no return fire required.

I received this...

Damn brother, blew up my mailbox with this bomb! Return fire to be expected! Thanks so much my friend!

No return fire on gifts bro!
Also, that's probably one I'd the best Camacho ever. In the small amount I've tried from them at least

Joe,
Just enjoy the cigars. I had a well earned rep on the Cigarbid boards, as the king of bargains, and the guy who could day in a day out, sniff out un-heard of deals, and under the radar auction lots. So believe me when I say this is no biggie.

BTW, that '07 OR Morado may ruin you for life, lol. So sad that when CI bought the label, they turned a once great cigar into nothing more than a dog rocket.

I find them to be medium-full but not overly strong unless on an empty stomach... LOL

Mike just clobbered me with a MEGA BOMB OF 22 CIGARS! Worth like 10 times what I sent him. Included where an Illusione Ultra, a Tat Cojonu '09, and a bunch of other premiums. I learned my lesson. I will never do a good deed again, lol. So, do I lick my wounds, and admit defeat, or escalate this into WWIII?

Mike,
Un-freak'n believable. I have exchanged with some very generous brothers before, but you take the cake. I am humbled and extremely grateful. Thank you so much brother.

I'm in the middle of a bathroom tear out, and I have granite coming later today, so I really have to get back to work, but as soon as I get some down time, I'll post the damages.
Bro the bathroom can wait. We want porn.
