Anyone have any sipping rum recommendations? From what I can find, it seems that a lot recommend Captain Morgan Private Stock as a good beginner starting point. Anyone have any experience with CMPS?

Thanks for all the suggestions! Whats the usual price range on Zacapa? I see there is a 23 and an XO. Any preference between the 2?

One of my favorites, and one that won't knock you out, is a domestic rum made near where I live. It is the Delaware Distilling Company Spiced Rum.

It is a fantastic rum that has a pleasant citrusy scent to it that matches the flavor. I always keep a bottle on hand, and it is superb.

I found the XO to be similar but with more flavors. I picked up more banana and a lot more coconut. There is also a oakiness to it which is scotch like. The XO is also going to be right at a hundred bucks per bottle. The Solera 23 is similar to the XO but just not as much flavor. You can get a bottle of that at $35 to $45 USD. I would grab a bottle of this before you spend the money on the XO. :)

The 23 is around $38 around me, you'll love it with a cigar.
What this guy said!

Typically I will pair Zacapa with something spicy but Zacapa pairs very well with an assortment of cigars and you probably won't go wrong. Scotch and bourbon are harder to pair well imo.

You can't go wrong with Zacapa like the others stated. It pairs well with any cigar.

In my opinion the XO is not worth the added price. I'd rather go for a Ron Zacapa Etiqueta Negra (Black Label) any day - has the flavors of the regular 23, but not as sweet.

Other than that Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is good option.

Everyone mentioned it already but I'm on the Zacapa train too! It paired extremely well with a LP #9.

I do drink it often with all different cigars and pairs well with them.

You could always see if your local stores have smaller bottles of some of the other sipping rums and give them a shot too. I purchased the "nips" before buying a bottle.
