I have a tupperdore that is totally clear plastic. Is it bad to subject cigars to light? Also, I don't know whether I like smoking them wet or dry so I want somewhere in the middle. What is a "normal" RH to keep them at in the the tupperdore? I ordered 4 72% Boveda packs to throw in the tupperdore. I'm figuring, if it were full of loose sticks with no boxes, that it would hold 100-125 with them stacked from floor to lid. That's just to give you an idea of the size. Any help?

Tupperdore is probably fine for now until you build your collection more. I would keep them out of light if possible. I prefer a cooler now instead of a humidor because they are so easy to maintain with some beads and/or the large boveda packs.
72% is too wet for me personally. I like to keep mine at 62-64%.

When I started out I kept mine at 70% because that's what I found as the recommended RH just about everywhere. What I quickly found is that 70% was too high for me causing burn issues, lack of taste, and all sorts of other assorted nastiness. On the recommendation of the brothers here I switched everything to 65% a few years back and have been very happy ever since.

As far as your clear Tupperdore, I would think that you would be fine as long as it is not exposed to direct sunlight. Your best bet would be to keep it in a drawer or closet where the temperature is going to be more stable as well.

Did I read where the bovedas run about 4 RH under what the packs say? If so that will put me at 68. If I start having problems I can always buy some 65's and take the 72s out right? As for where the tupperdore is...I have it under my desk out of any direct light at all.

My bovedas are spot on for what theyre maked as. I like my sticks around 66-68 rh but thats all just personal preference. I'd toss some cedar in there too.

72%RH Is on the high side. If you want somewhere in the middle, you need to get the 65%RH boveda packs. The generally accepted 'middle' is 65%. 60 being the lower end and 70 the higher end. This is entirely personal choice & preference. No 'best' or correct way.

No idea why you'd want 72s (if you want middle Range RH) And no idea who gave you the idea they run 4 under. They work very accurately +/-1%RH. You can check this with an good hygrometer.

I know I read that somewhere. Oh well, they are brand new large ones. My B&M may trade me. I'm supposed to get them today. I'll check and see.

If my sticks are smoking fine, I don't worry about the minor variations in the humidity. After all, what's important really is the humidity in the cigars and not their environment.

In a Spanish cedar humidor since it isn't air tight the Bovedas will maintain the rh a few points lower than rated.

How can I tell if they are too wet? What will some issues be?

They'll tunnel. The filler will burn quicker than the wrapper. See if your B&M will sell you an empty wood cigar box. Most will for a buck or two. Dry box whatever you're going to smoke in there for a day or so & let the wrapper give off some moisture. You'll get a more consistent burn.

Marshall hit the nail on the head. Standard desktop humidors (especially the cheap Chinese ones) are generally a little leaky so you need to add a higher RH Boveda to compensate. I use 70 RH Bovedas in the desktops that I have and they usually read 66-67 on the hygrometers.

Tupperdores on the other hand have a much better seal and the Bovedas should hold your humidity pretty much spot-on with what is printed on them.

I have medium humi holds about 40 sticks (rated for 50-60) with three 69rh boveda packs (60gram packets).

after seasoning and prep, till now its holding right at 63-64rh, halfway stocked. Just about everyone is loves 60-67rh from what I've read and been told.

Tupperadors are extremely reliable and using a hygro in them is a "must".....as far as Bovedas raising the RH to 4% is debateable.....65% is the accepted percentage for most but that doesn't mean it's absolute. Some cigars smoke better at 70% while most don't...it's something that should be determined on our own tastes. Since I've got so many tupperadors it's a wise thing to "burp" them once a week to keep fresh air from going stale inside of them in my experience.....with wood humidors you don't have to do this. It's best to fill any humidor 3/4 full...that helps balance the overall exchange of air.

I would say call wherever you ordered you Bovedas from and see if you can switch to 65%. Mine keep everything at 65 perfect, regardless of temp fluctuations.
