Definitely agree with his message but I'm glad I read that rather than watched or listened to it. Hard to make a statement like that without sounding pretentious.

Although I think sometimes the consistent quality from a company can influence the expectations. For example, you smoke a Padron and chances are, you will be under the impression that it's going to smoke well. Until you get to a Damaso.....

Interesting take on that....I've done enough taste tests with blind reviews and with the bands on. I guess I'm too old to let anything prejudice my tastes because I want the unvarnished truth as to what I taste and what I like,,,,keeps me from spending so much money on cigars that just come out or are the "new" thing. I tend to let my tastes tell me what I like....I trust them.

I picked this up from my LinkedIn account and I want to share.

The article points out a couple of interesting things I never considered when smoking a cigar.

I have done this numerous times. I'm currently trying to smoke the top 10 of cigar aficionado.the ratings have opened me up to new cigars (thats how I have come to enjoy fuente). Where in the past I hated them and thought them to be too commercial. Yes some times I smoke the band but what's wrong with that. Got me to where I am today. A novice smoker enjoying my different smokes

Good read. A cigar is an experience and everything involved is part of that experience (construction, visual appearance, band, texture, food, drink, weather, mood, last bowel movement). It is all part of it which is why i like when people set the stage when reviewing including noting if they are eager to try the particular cigar because of what they heard about it (admit I am not always great about doing this). Also, another thing to keep in mind is that in general people write reviews because of the ends of the Like-------dont like spectrum. All review databases in any form miss substantial data in the middle of the spectrum.

Having said that, reviews are two sided. As a reader of reviews I try to put everything into context and use what others have described as a loose template from which I will form my own opinions off of. I will look for cedar if I read a review noting cedar but if it is not there then no big deal as my pallet is different.

Good read and its good for all of us to keep challenging how we think about this great hobby.
