Controversial Wino Having Performance Issues

So, two days ago, in a deal some individuals took issue with, I purchased a 28-Bottle Edgestar Wine Cooler with six shelves, a Ranco temp control unit and a few pounds of beads.

Fast forward to last night, I plug the unit in, and it reads 56% / 71° on my Xikar hygrometer. The fan kicks on, since it's been set to turn on at 70° and cool to 65°'. I removed the drawers, since I suspected it could be hindering airflow and they need reseasoned.

Wake up this morning and go to check on it. It's now reading 68% / 74°. No bueno. Fan has run all night, not cooling at all. House temperature is set to 70°, and the unit is upstairs.

At this point, I'm wondering if the cooler is shot. Anyone have any advice, tips, or tricks?

It seems that the peltier isn't being cooled at any point to actually lower the temperature, only the fan (on constantly, since it's not cooling).

So I contacted the seller, who promptly responded, which I appreciate. He stated the following:

The wine cooler needs to be kept somewhere cooler than where I have it (there is nowhere cooler than La Casa de Spenny, let's be honest). The peltier unit that is cooled off by the fan (which is confirmed running) will apparently not cool off well if it's in a warm area.

The wine cooler needs to be kept full because the items in the wine cooler are what holds the temperature.

Any truth to these statements? I understand it would fight harder at higher temps, but it's not fighting, just slowly and quietly fanning.

If your house temp is 70 it should have no problem cooling to 65. Seems like BS. You should be able to feel a little cool air blowing I would think.

But I have very little experience with wine coolers. So all speculation on my part.

From what I understand the temperature differential needs to be close in order for it to cool. What is the the room temp?

I have a new air and a cheaper wineador and both of them have no problems keeping my sticks cold. Even here in the SC summers with temps above 95° the highest I've seen mine is about 74° because my house is not ac. I think the unit is broke....

Let's see... The dude that sold you the unit is basically saying " for the cooler to reach 65 degrees, Casa De Spenny must be set to 65 degrees."
Am I understanding this correctly my good man? Eric, somewhere deep in the recesses of my reptilian brain bells are clanging.

Spenn I am not familiar with that unit. Is it thermoelectric ? Check that their is no gunk on the heat sink. Canned air can help hear. The cooking units are very simple electronics. Most likely yiur having air flow issues at the back of the unit or on the fins. Worse case scenario is the cooling unit needs replaced. These run about 25 typically. Also set the temp to the coolest setting then dial up from their. You can't trust the temp settings. My hous stays about 78 in the summer and I can keep my units at 65 by setting them at 60.

he is FOS.. the items in the cooler are not what bring the cooler to the lower temp...

they may help to hold them temp once it gets there in the event that you open the door, etc..

but a cigar, a wooden drawer, or shelf, etc.. isnt what actually gets it cold in the first place..

The peltier is not cooled off by the fan... the fan distributes the cold that the peltier creates.. if your fan was broken, but your peltier was working.. your wine cooler would still get cold.. it just wouldnt get cold efficiently, and would be most cold near the peltier, and less cold the further you got away from it..

if the fan is running.. and the wineador isnt getting cold.. that screams to me the peltier is bad.. the fan is just pushing room temp air around...

So, is opening up the back of the unit and trying to ensure the internals are clear of debris/crap worth it, or does this need to be set out on the range immediately, for 5.56/7.62 redecoration?

I have the same issue with my Newair 281, have to keep it close to room temp. So I keep my house at 68, and cooler at 65/66. Tried cooler b4 and it would just run 24/7 and never cool quiet well, and unit is brand new

See that's my confusion. It'd be sensible enough for me to just get a regular cooler then. My basement stays in the mid to upper 60's year round, so why put a wino in the basement. :( ?
