Sudden moisture in tupperdor.

Cigary43, These days I'm thinking harder about alternatives. I initially grabbed Boveda, because they seemed simple and less likely for me to somehow fuck up.

One complaint I do have about them is that they TAKE moisture much slower than they release it... as in, I'm really starting to believe that cigars suck up moisture way faster than Boveda does. It might not usually be a problem, as most people have a decent amount of control in things, but if there's a shift of some sort... fuuuuuck.

In the past, if rh was a little high (new sticks or whatnot) I've depended on an extra peice of unseasoned Spanish cedar, to help reduce. Boveda isnt fast, and it has limits on how much it can actually take in due to space.

Oh my poor BOTL.....I grieve with you and can see the distress in your posts. Yes...Bovedas tend to be slow in the exchange dept. which is why I rarely use them unless I've taken a certain amount of xanax and elavil and kick back and watch paint dry. Cedar "helps" in the regulation of RH but it too takes time. Give KL a try....I've converted a lot of people over to it and if you don't like...you're not out a lot of money...a small portion is under $5 and you'll know within a day if it's for you.

Cigars that come from "certain" Vendors can almost be rung out like a washcloth....they are notorious for being high in RH so when they hit your humidor it's like monsoon season. Smaller humis tend to trap RH inside....those desktops can be a PIA which is why there is a preference for larger ones where they hold 100 or more but don't over crowd any humidor....rule of thumb is to fill at a ratio of 75% so there is enough room for the cigars to breathe.

***Boveda People......please don't stone me as I am not saying Bovedas are bad...they aren't as I have a few humidors that have them but I've tried every type of RH items and KL is like Humidification for Dummies 101...pretty much fail proof...and you can start over in a few minutes if your RH goes up too much....add dry KL...if it goes down spray DW over the litter...how can you go wrong?

I think someone is sabotaging your cigars, spritzing it with water from time to time.

I have the exact same problem.. all my cigars tasted sour and twangy from the get go. Did you ever figure out what happened or try the KL?

Im betting that those cigars that you have are overly humidified....that's how they taste when they are like sponges instead of cigars. Bringing down an over humidified cigar isn't just about changing the numbers...it's a process where you get to your desired RH and then let those cigars that were so "wet" have a change to acclimate in their home as that can take as much as a month or more. When they are at a stage where they are sour it's going to take months to get that tobacco to release most of the RH it's absorbed. We shouldn't confuse RH numbers inside a humidor with what the cigar is in the state it's in.....a humidor can keep a rate of 65% with beads, KL and such but there is still a percentage inside the cigar that is still over humidified. It's not just a case of an instant fix....it takes time to get your cigars to a smoking state and just because we could have a humidor that is 65%...doesn't mean that the cigar once it's put inside .....immediately becomes a 65% humidified cigar...it's not a miracle humidor.

Thing is, how did it get overly humidified? When they first arrived and I smoked them ROTT, they were fine. It wasn't until recently that every stick I tried tasted sour and twangy right off the bat. According to my hydromter that is reading at +4, my tupperdor with cedar trays have been consistently staying at 65% before the sticks were introduced with some of them having 3 months of resting time.

Thing is, how did it get overly humidified? When they first arrived and I smoked them ROTT, they were fine. It wasn't until recently that every stick I tried tasted sour and twangy right off the bat. According to my hydromter that is reading at +4, my tupperdor with cedar trays have been consistently staying at 65% before the sticks were introduced with some of them having 3 months of resting time.

It could be something as simple as you lighting it wrong. I know I've had sticks from the same box that have been in the box for years taste different because I ate something different or lit too much of it or something else.
