Storing my cigars

Good afternoon fellow brothers, I have a question. I've hit the 6 month mark with my humidor (50-75 ct) and noticed the drop in my hygrometer, I added 2 boveda 69 packs and the needle hasn't budged (58%-60%) I know the winter season has its effects on the humidity but I'm concerned for my babies lol. I'm looking to my BOTL fam to help a brother out with some suggestions. Do I need to calibrate my hygrometer? or should I store it differently for the winter months? Thank you for your time fellas!

About how many cigars do you have in your humidor?

When I was just starting out, I had trouble keeping a steady humidity in my 100 ct desktop. At the time I only had about 20 cigars in there and one of the workers at my local B&M suggested that I fill some of that empty void with plastic shopping bags.

After becoming a member here I no longer needed to fill voids in my humidors with objects other than cigars, I also had to upgrade to a cooler.

I'm by no way an expert so I'm sure others will chime in with way more experience then me. Good luck though.

Start with buying an electronic hygrometer. The analog ones aren't ever reliable. Then fill as much negative space as you can...preferably with cigars, of course. Also try moving the humidor to a different room. I sometimes need to move my desktop up/down stairs as the seasons change.

Agreed, buy a digital hygrometer before you stress over it. If that shows low RH as well, then address it from there. Analogs are terrible, my first one was off around 7-8%

It's probably not the answer that you want to hear but ditch the humidor and get some Tupperware. Digital hygrometers are light years better than analog but don't spend every waking minute worrying about what it says. You're using boveda so you got that going for you. They are two way humidificaton, yada, yada, yada. Once you get yourself a sealable container that is way bigger than you think you need you can put as many boveda in there as you want. The more you have the quicker the RH will stabilize. Store cigars in there and judge your RH issues by how your cigars are smoking.

Here's a few ideas for you.
Your new tuppedor: http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Storage-Container-BPA-Free-Plastic/dp/B000WEMFGQ/ref=sr_1_20?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1453091086&sr=1-20&keywords=rubbermaid storage containers
Something to hold bovedas (although they say they can touch your cigars I think they burn funny when they do): http://www.amazon.com/Boveda-Official-Wood-4-packet-Holder/dp/B004NUB0IY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453091287&sr=8-2&keywords=Cedar boveda holder

I have this same set up and have no problems with my smokes and the bovedas have been in there for almost a year.

Do you mind sending a pic of your setup, just to have an idea of what it looks like.

Some guys are crazy abut using the tupawear....I'm not. It's a solid idea and works well, but I've ruined cigars with the smell of the plastic. If you go this route it is imperative there is absolutely no plastic smell remaining inside the container. Not even "good enough". Trust me.

Ditch the analog and get a digital for sure.....good luck!

Here's the Rubbermaid. I just keep a bunch of random things in that one.

You can also get a bigger tub like this at Target. I keep my boxes and singles that won't fit in the wine fridge in here.

You definitely want to wash the container with a mild detergent and warm water before storing. I haven't had any issues with plastic smells but others have. My two cents and everyone has their own way of doing it. Just find what works for you.
