Are these construction issues common? Or am I just lucky?

So I was smoking a crowned heads la imperosia magicos tonight and encountered a problem. I wasn't getting any smoke out of it after a half inch in... None...... But the cigar was heating up like normal. I though it might be going out or tunneling, but that was not the case, it was burning perfectly, just no smoke output. I had the same problem once with a le bejiou, coincidentally also in a petite robusto size. It looks like it was made with a small straw in the middle of it that was removed after the fact. This is probably the fourth la imperosia I have had and is the first that didn't preform perfectly. It just seems odd to me that the only 2 times I have encountered this have been with a petite robusto size. Anyone else ever see this?

I didn't have that issue with the Crowned Heads. My first one had a hard spot that would not burn right at first. It was a hard black piece that would burn, it turned black, but it put off a plastic like taste. About 3/16ths of an inch in I knocked it off and the stick burned correctly. It still had a funky taste for a half inch and then turned normal.

The issues get reduced after storing them properly, sometimes a cigar is just a dud!

I figure it was just a once in a blue moon kinda thing. This one had been sitting in my humidor for about 2 months and all the others I've had were perfect. I just though it was strange that I've only seen this twice and both times were in very good cigars and the petite robusto size. If it was a burn issue like tunneling, canoeing or uneven burn,I would chalk it up as a problem with my storage, but this one was made with a small hole running almost the entire length of the cigar. is this something that a little more humidor time would help fix?

The fact that two issues were in petit robos is coincidence. These things are handmade, things happen.

It kinda looks like a couple beetles tunneled up through there, leaving an open tunnel, which will affect your burn.

Or, there was some thinner, dryer leaf that burned up quickly, leaving a hole in it's wake.

Doubt very seriously it's beetles man, unless your cigars have tunnel holes in the wrappers. But yeah, the way the tobacco is bunched can sometimes leave a larger opening like that, and sometimes a filler leaf can burn faster than others in the blend. Maybe if it happens again, try re-lighting it, or gently pinching it took see if it closes up some. Did you happen to notice an extremely light draw on the cigar?

The draw was not extremely light. There was a little resistance, but there just wasn't any smoke coming out.

Yep...handmades will turn up where you scratch your head thinking...was this POS made on a Friday where the worker couldn't wait to get home and have a cigar themselves? It's not often this happens esp. from a Manufacturer that is well known for QC...but shyte happens.

The photo shows a perfectly round hole about the size of a small straw. I've never seen that before. It would account for the lack of smoke. When you draw, all the air would rush down the hole (the path of least resistance) and there would be no smoke. It seems too large for beatles and there were no holes holes in the wrapper. It really looks man-made. Very strange !
I have rolled my own cigars and sometimes, when they are too tight, I push a heavy wire down the center of the cigar a few times to make the draw easier. I can't believe that the factory would do something like that but it makes me wonder.

I found a video of Bryan Glenn from cigarobsession encountering the exact same problem that I had. You can fast forward to 2:30 to get straight to it.turns out he was reviewing a le bejiou in toro.ive only been smoking for about a year and a half and have encountered this twice. I figured with all of the experience of the brothers here, someone else would have experienced this at least once.

I've been smoking for a couple of years and never had this happen. Too big to be a Beatle unless it's on steroids and like Steve said, could be a bunching problem.
