A freezer like you can a fridge? I see people will install a ETC on a fridge to convert it for storage.

This is in the wrong place but I thought it would get more looks here.

My dad has a large freezer that he wants gone and I need something to store my beer celler in ( house is not AC). Can I install a ETC on the freezer or would it hurt it? Thanks

Again sorry mods I just thought this would get more views here. Thanks

You posted it right. As for using a freezer, you would need something to bump the temperature to a more tolerant range for cigars (60-69 degrees) As in the wins dots, there is a tweak to make it perfect for cigars. Not a good thing to dry out cigars due to complete refrigeration. But, this isn't in my wheelhouse nor do I have prior experience with this.

My thought would be you could us a freezer no problem. The etc is only going to let it cycle on when the temp falls out of your preset range. Might wreck the freezer over time but if it's free and he wants it gone what do you have to lose?

A standsrd Freezer/ fridge will dry out your sticks if you run it due to being cooled by a standard compressor. Wine cooler are thermo electric. They do not pull moisture from the air because they are made for wine bottles and drawing moisture from the inside of the unit would dry out corks and ruin wine.

If using a fridge or freezer, just leave it unplugged and try to keep it somewhere cool. Just my .02.

Did anyone read up above that he wants to use it for his beer cellar? :)
I'd say give it a shot. And if it doesn't work out return the etc. I think it will work fine myself.

Oops. I saw humidor/storage and missed the beer cellar part.

Yes. I imagine it would work.

It should work. I'm not sure what temp you're shooting for, but I'd guess probably in the 50s? Beats me. My measly beer cellar is in two different spots uncontrolled in my basement. Anyway, a lot of homebrewers convert freezers to fermentation chambers to tightly control the temperature. It's been awhile since I looked into it, but I think it's pretty simple to get them into the 50 or 60 degree range, depending on what you want to spend. I'd recommend looking over at homebrewtalk.com or another good Homebrew forum. Look around for freezer fermentation chambers and you should get some ideas. I think the process is pretty similar to a winador conversion, and you can spend as much or as little as you want on it.
